View Full Version : Setting up Outlook Automatically

When I was with a different host they had a utility that would generate something that when installed on a client machine enabled Outlook/Outlook Express to use Pop etc for sending/receiving.

The way it worked was you'd type in the name of the user, the password and the routine created a file that when downloaded and double-clicked made the necessary entries to the registry (or whatever) to enable the program to work.

Does anyone know of a similar routine or script?

I haven't tested this out, but I believe there is something similar in ops MailCentral, next to each mailbox there's a link that says "access", and in there there's a button for downloading a registry file

That is the sort of thing I'm looking for, but I need it to work on W2K and Outlook2K and the one in OPS says it is only for XP.

Any other ideas?

Upgrade to XP? :D

I've got a user who refuses to let go of her 2K. She wants Office 2007 and when I said it doesn't work with 2K, she argued about it with me! Like I can magically make it work.

Sheeesh.

Sounds easy, until you realise there are 350+ machines running 2k and the idea is to keep them all the same. It's not my decision but it's not going to happen. Alternatives using 2k are still needed. Would you like to make the donation needed to Uncle Bill?

If I had understood it, it might :(

From what I did pick up, it can be used to configure Outlook on an Exchange Server and is for delployment as an Network Admin.

I don't have net admin privileges.

I wish to create a series of reg files to enable pupils to configure Outlook on non-roaming profiles to work with POP accounts at Powweb. All I want them to do is double click and 'Hey Presto' it's done.

Each pupil would have a different account name. I know that with non-roaming profiles they won't be able to use the accounts anywhere else at school - that is OK.

Exactly what I needed. I've tested here at home and it works as I wish - now all I need to do is test it at work. I'd add rep points, but need to spread them around more (so the message said :D)

Excellent! I've wondered about the rep spreading; seems like a lot of spreading needs to happen before you can re-rep someone!

I think I included VBA in the search query to find it.

Got blocked at work, so I'll have to take a look tonight, but thanks tpoynton, I was looking for something like that a couple of months ago.

Yes, rep points are very akin to cow... err, I mean fertilizer. It must be spread around to be most effective

I had some extra so I gave them to tpoynton. Granted not as many as Ian bestows at once but mine are of a higher quality and sell for much moolah on eBay. :)
