View Full Version : mp3 player loses files while downloading!?
My XO Vision mp3 player with 2 gig memory downloads mp3 files from my Dell desktop running Win XP by acting as a flash drive connecting via USB port. In theory, one opens an explorer window for the hard drive and another window for the mp3 player and transfers files from one window to the other. When this is done, it shows, say 155 files have been copied to the mp3 player but when one disconnects and re-connects to the USB port, a check of the window on the computer reveals only about 90 files and if one does this again the total drops to say 66 files. A check of properties gives the 2gig total minus an expected capacity to account for what is actually on the mp3 player, it's just that the player seems to somehow lose some of what had seemed definitely copied from the computer hard drive.
During downloading, the player displays "ready" after it has copied each song and 'writing" while downloading so I am careful not to initiate another song transfer until the ready message appears. So, why is it being "forgetful" and what can be done about this?
Thanks for help.
I have a SanDisk View and that's the way I copy music to it. Does the Vision except files that aren't MP3s like WMAs and such? If it doesn't, that could explain the difference.
Every file so far has been in mp3 format..........are you suggesting I try just WMA files to test it? It also can record music from local FM stations and is supposed to accept mp1,mp2,mp3,wma and wav formats according to the scanty documentation.
Well if it's supposed to accept WMA files then that's not the problem. Try loading in smaller chunks to see if there's some type of copy protection being invoked by the evil demons of digital copyright! :D
when you have something connected via usb and you're copying files, a little icon shows up in the systray (by the clock). What you're supposed to do is doubleclick on this and disconnect (or something) the device before unplugging it. This is presumably because of write caching that the O/S does. Personally, I've never run into problems with this, but are you doing this prior to unplugging the device? Maybe it's cached those missing mp3s and hasn't actually written them to the player yet.
I have not disconnected the usb using a systray icon and the documentation doesn't mention this except to say the unit is supposed to behave identically to a flash drive. My wife downloads songs on her Creative Labs 2gig unit without hassle. Strange, also the reviews on the XOVision on the Walmart page are 80% negative...does this cache problem occur on most other players?
no, honestly. It's an issue I'm aware of by reading about it as being possible but I've never ever seen it in the real world. Sorry man, maybe the thing's just buggy.
