I uploaded a 3.8 gig file for a friend to grab. I can see it, and the url I gave them is correct. 100 %. I even made the directory visible (browsing) to confirm this. However when you go to download it, it gives the standard "The website cannot display the page".
any ideas?
What type of file is it and are you right clicking to do a "save target as"?

I am thinking that the file type is the problem as far as typing or clicking the URL for certain types. If I posted the URL to a zip file, you are prompted to download it. If I posted the URL to a file that is trying to play/open in the browser, the browser may give you an error.
You can create a temporary ftp login to access a subdirectory specified in OPS. Place the file(s) you wish to share in that subdirectory. The other person will only have access to that subdirectory and its subdirectories.

If this is being downloaded through the browser...is it going to time out?
Does the error message appear immediately, or does it occur after time?
ftp would probably be the best way to go for this type of file transfer, as yvette said

Create an FTP user in OPS with the /folder/path/ to the file. Then tell him to put this into Windows Explorer. ftp://loginname:password@ftp.powweb.com Bingo he's in and can drag and drop it into a folder on his pc (yes you can edit his actual loginname:password into the link).
*note: Storage of digital media unrelated to your Powweb website is not allowed.
