I'm not longer receiving notifications of new posts to threads which I am subscribed. Yes, my "Default Thread Subscription Mode" in the User CP is set to "Instant Email Notification," and checking the list of subscribed threads confirms this.
I feel like I am trying to be hushed.

Hmm.. I can asure you you're not being hushed, not intentionally at least. I wonder if the threads got moved to somewhere that doesn't allow notification. Can you tell us which are the silenced threads?

I noticed this and just thought that PowWeb disabled the feature to reduce the amount of outgoing mail and prevent being listed as a spammer!

That's ok, we already know you're a forum spammer Yvette ;)

Well we were told by PowWeb support that to subscribe to forums was the best way to get notices about events and such.... since they were against making a subscription for people who wanted to know about important events and such.
of course with the new powweb, this might have changed - already notice that they no longer post as much in the forums here, but force you to go into OPS and look for important messages.
I wonder if the threads got moved to somewhere that doesn't allow notification.
I don't think that's the case, Croc. I haven't even gotten notified on replies to this thread.
Kevin
Uh, did anyone try to subscribe to a thread? If so, did you happen to see this message: Forum no longer sending notifications on the left hand side?
I'm doubting it's some vast global grassy knoll conspiracy but rather someone may have clicked in the wrong place while making changes to the forum.
Just a guess here Doc, but was the thread you tried to subscribe to, this one? "Forum no longer sending notifications", is the Title of the Thread, and not I believe a notification that thread notification has been turned off. Another thread I just tried "count number of classes" showed up as "Subscribed to thread: count number of classes"...
Just a thought.

But it sure is much more fun to think that. :D
Dang, symo. The man in the canvas coat got me again. I didn't realize that. Guess I shouldn't make posts when co-workers are trying to rush me out to buy them lunch!
And Builder, you're right. Maybe that's why one of my domains has conspiracy in it! :D

This one for example. And this one:

I've asked a forum Admin to look into it. Thanks for pointing it out progravix.

Any update on this? It's really annoying not to receive notifications.

No update yet, I or someone will post here if there is.

If you can see people who have registered recently have they activated their accounts?
If mails are not getting out, they wont be activating?
That activation email could come from a different part of the application.
Dawn: I understood the 'non-notification' issue to be on THIS forum here at Powweb not a one installed on a users website.
Progravix: Am I correct in my understanding?
All: I similarly didn't get the notification expected when the announcement about new extra MySql servers which has strengthened my view I was correct about the original post.
I wasn't notified either, Ian so maybe we can start a support group for those left out of important stuff. :)
And where do I find out if I mucked up setting up the notification thing? I could have done something, I guess.
Here (http://forum.powweb.com/usercp.php) should display the forums and threads you're 'subscribed' to. Mine is showing the correct forums but the e-mail didn't get to me.
Here (http://forum.powweb.com/profile.php?do=editpassword) should show the e-mail address that it was (or wasn't) sent to.

Yes, these forums.

Actually, here is the correct page to view subscriptions:
http://forum.powweb.com/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription
The link you provided shows activity (new posts) for threads or forums you are subscribed to.
I'm partly right - What I gave was a link to the Forums subscription. The one you gave is both threads and forums.
My last forum notification was on 3rd March - nothing since. I haven't signed up for thread notification. (I'm 'subscribed' to 5200+ threads - it seems I subscribe every time I post ;) and I post a lot! :D)

Correct, but to clarify (and off topic from the current issue here)....
This page (http://forum.powweb.com/usercp.php) shows all forums you are subscribed to, and only threads with unread activity. If you visit (read) each thread with new posts, the threads will drop from this page (until new activity occurs). Forums will never drop, even if you mark all threads as read.
This page (http://forum.powweb.com/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription) shows all threads to which you are subscribed (new, unread posts or not). This same page, however, only shows me threads which I am subscribed to, and not forums.

For what it's worth, I'm not receiving "Email Notification of New Private Messages" either.
It's been so long since I signed up, but is there email confirmations to enable new registrations? It seems like new registrations are taking place. I'm just wondering if NO mail is getting out at all.

Just requested my username be sent via email a few minutes ago. I cant remember the last time I actually had to log into here.
Nothing yet...perhaps it'll come via USPS. I'll update here IF I get an email.
Perhaps the forum notifications are being flagged as spam and not even being sent by the outgoing server?

No email yet...I also signed up for a new account (err, my wife signed up for a new account) to see what would happen about an hour ago, and no email from there either. It just might be that no email at all is getting out.
Perhaps the forum notifications are being flagged as spam and not even being sent by the outgoing server?
Heh, I've actually had something similar happen. While the notifications were getting through the outgoing server, they were being flagged as spam by the "incoming"/Powweb server. Go figure.

I just tried the "Send This Thread" and didn't receive it either.
Anyone try a non-PowWeb address?
I actually forgot my password and was trying to request a new password and didn't get anything in my email. So went on the chatroom and chat with the supporter about the forum, they ended up send me a temporarily password for my hosting account instead for the forum LOL. luckily my old computer stored my password so now I can login into the forum and changed my password to something that I can remember :)
It seems something is very broken. Notification of PM's isn't working as I've just been testing this with Doc. They were working on 17th March as that is the last PM I've got a record of by e-mail.

Anyone try a non-PowWeb address?
yes. now the scope of the problem is clearer!
I've always used a non-PowWeb address for announcements and PM notifications. I'm getting nothing.

Anyone notice when this stopped? Perhaps when they took the board down for maintenance something happened to it.
Anyone got a more recent PM notification that 3/17/08 (US style date)?

I could not find any PowWeb notifications later than March 17th, though the eBay and PayPal notifications are still arriving. I also get notifications from another forum, so it appears that there is a problem with the PowWeb forum notifications.
FIGURES... like, 6 seconds after I post in a totally differen forum (chit-chat), i find THIS thread. I would not have thought to look here :D
So yeah, notifications are turned off... bummer...

I noticed the forums were down this morning; perhaps some maintenance helped!
things have been slow around here lately; I suspect having notifications back on will facilitate things.
Ha ha, smarty Ian. It was from the War between the States! :D :D
WOW... i registered for this forum about 3 weeks ago when i signed up with powweb. after about 8 emails back and forth to support they finally got this working. i wonder how many other new users have been sitting and waiting to be able to post.

Posts are moderated until you reach the threshold -- that means one of the mods has to review your post before it will "show" in the forum.
Support have essentially no access/control of things related to the Forum ...
To clarify what dmacminn said, GR81, the first five posts of a new member are held in the moderation queue and it's the first ten if there is a link in one of the posts. This is to cut down on SPAM.
Sigs are earned after a certain number of posts. If memory serves, it is 50 posts.
sorry, i didnt clarify myself.
the activation email wasnt coming through so i couldnt activate my new account which meant i couldnt post at all.
i was aware of the standown period you speak of. thanks :)

I remember when customers were complaining about this problem with their own forums. It is strange to see that happen to THIS forum. Sorry for the inconvenience, but glad you can join us now.
