View Full Version : Is it difficult moving to a new host?

With the recent issues with the MySQL servers I've decided PowWeb no longer meets my expectations. My visitors are angry and frustrated that it takes over two and a half minutes just to post a message on the forums. The problem seems to be getting worse as well.

What I'm asking is, how difficult is it to move a domain name and MySQL database to a different host? I assume I'd just be exporting the database and importing it to a new server, and then changing some config files. I don't know about the domain name though. Transfering the files seems like the easiest part, as I don't really have so many. My forum is also rather small, so the database isn't big either.

I don't WANT to leave PowWeb, but this MySQL thing is becoming a serious burden on my website and my visitors. I have always been very happy with PowWeb, as they offer so many services and functions. Any advice?

Just a thought, could I just move my MySQL database to a new server? It seems like that would be easier and I could move it back when PowWeb fixes things. Thanks in advance.

You basically have everything covered.

You just need to change the nameservers to your new host and it will take 1-2 days for everyone to see the new (hopefully quick) site.

Wow... nevermind. I can't even export my database to move it to another host. It just times out when I try. This is just sad. Oh well. We have too much data stored to just start a new one. I guess we'll have to wait this out.

I noted some improvement today ... but I also see all of the advertising Powweb is doing for new as well as additional sites, at low prices. The result will be more sites which I expect will adversely affect system response as well as viable customer support. Ther eis break point. I hope that we haven't already passed it.
