Some web designers using the 'affiliate' program buy web hosting for their clients and charge their clients an additional sum each month and the client never knows about PowWeb. I don't agree with this practice and I feel it is important for the client to own their domain name and have access to their website host. While under development, or sites that have ongoing maintenance/updates, I leave my email address as the contact. However, some clients prefer to be the email contact which is okay with me ... until recently as PowWeb is sending marketing email offering web design services! I mean shoot me in the foot why don't they. My clients think I'm affilated and when I explain that I'm not involved, a few have questioned my prices and services and want shopping cart comparisons, etc.

I called Support and was told that I could turn off the marketing email in OPS but I don't find the option. Can you help me?

LinK,

In order to manage subscriptions just login into Control Panel, and select Manage Subscriptions under Account Information. Then enter email address and you'll see your current subscriptions and then you can change them.

I logged in to my client's account but was afraid to change preferences ... fear that a message would go to him saying preferences were changed ... Valid fear?

I can't take a chance. I'll have to chalk this up as experience ... and hope PowWeb doesn't keep sending messages offering web design services.

Well LinK:

charging clients an ongoing monthly fee for hosting, is just one of the ways web designers use to create a little residual income, its just another way to grow your business, no reason to knock it!!

Some times the client is so clueless, that if they have access to their account, they will mess it up, and you will spend hours fixing it, I guess its just a matter of what kind of agreement you come to with your client. Most my clients are friends and family, and most run their own sites just fine, but there is a few of them, that I will not let anywhere near the controls, cause I have already experienced the kind of devastation they can create.

I think this is an issue that should be evaluated one client at a time!

You could make the changes on your personal account just to test it first.

Powweb does NOT allow anybody to resell (that includes charging extra for) any of their services period. Certainly you may charge for your own time/work but you cannot charge extra for hosting or any of Powwebs services. If you guys know of anybody doing so please PM me.

Sorry Croc:

I was meaning that it is a common thing web designers do as a whole, I have had a reseller hosting account for so long that I forgot its not allowed here. I should have specified that I was talking about an (internet wide) practice, not a PW practice.

My apologies.

No harm meant, I was just stating my personal opinion.
