Http and ftp transfer speed

Is it normal to get 50 kb/sec transfer speeds on the http and ftp?? I'm normally getting 2mb/sec on other servers. 40x slower!! Talked to customer support to be told that "servers are functioning normally". I was told that the problem must be on my side. I could believe that, if other people I talked to, most of which I referred to PowWeb, have the same problem. This is crap and not acceptable. Does anyone have any suggestions? Know of reliable fast file servers?

We don't discuss other web hosts on this forum so suggestions, if made, will be removed.

Did you, and the others, try a tracert to see if there was a bottleneck en route. Frequently it has been seen that one particular routing has a problem, especially if trying to access via the same ISP or same area of the world. (Simply north/south/east/west of Boston!)

Yep, when I do a tracert from here (other side of the big pond) the slowness on congento system shows up.

It's not your account, it's not Powweb servers - it's Congento again! (I get worse figures than you, and worse than normal for me!)
