I have huge LaTeX issues on my mediawiki installation trying to get math formulas to render properly. I found a solution, but later discovered an error. In trying to resolve the issue, I contacted Powweb. This was their response:

We noticed that thr CGI file ‘mimetex.cgi’ is binary compiled file. Unfortunately, this is not supported on our servers.

What does this mean, why is it not supported, and how much effort would it take to get it supported?

If I cannot use math and LaTeX on my wiki, I'll have to change hosts, because I use my site primarily for education purposes, and there's currently no way to show fractions, radicals, etc in an efficient way without LaTeX.

Thanks

I've edited the thread title to more accurately describe the problem as CGI is supported.

I would look at http://www.w3.org/Math/ for info on MathML -- it and the associated tools might meet your needs by allowing the browser-side to render the required content.

Compiled CGI (executable) is not permitted on Powweb's servers and TeTex or similar TeX capable libraries are not available to support MimeTex or the newer MathTex...

With links (via your site) to additional resources (a few fonts to install, etc.) - the w3 standard method forward might be the best implementation...

You might also look at Abiword site (http://www.abisource.com/download/), they have a link to the MIT MathML fonts that might prove useful (.ttf fonts)
