hi,

I just recently installed Wordpress in the main directory of my website (http://www.artboycat.com) and I've been making changes to it throughout the day. I have another wordpress blog from a previous install in another directory of my site. However now when I go to the page (http://www.artboycat.com/preteenblog) it is no longer displaying. Instead its showing portions of the site on my main directory....How can I fix this and why is this happening?

Thanks

There is likely something conflicting in your .htaccess files. You now have one in your main directory and one in your /preteenblog directory.

Should i get rid of one or edit them...

If you still want both sites to work, you eill have to edit them.
But for troubleshooting purposes, try just changing the name of the /preteenblog one temporarily to htaccess (no period) or .htaccess2 or something. If you no longer get a 500 error, then we are on the right track...

i tried changing the name but it says the name is invalid so it wouldn't let me....I also uninstalled wordpress from the main directory and deleted the htaccess file associated with it...

at this point im trying to get back the preteenblog working again and then I'm not sure what to do about installing wordpress in the main directory....

I just changed the htaccess name but nothing happens I still get a "Page Not Found"

Another piece of information to consider is that the original folder for the preteen drama blog is called blog...I just have the folder directed to the name preteenblog ....when I link to the blog folder the page shows up but none of the links work and it doesnt display any of the content

okay i just renamed the blog address to be the same as the wordpress adress and now I can see my posts but I can't access the pages I created because they are under the preteenblog address...I guess at this point all I need is to change these and I should be good

ok after changing the links and making the wordpress address and blog address the same as the folder where wordpress is installed I have restored the blog....I would like it to go to preteen blog but for now as long as its up thats what matters....

Update:

I ended up deleting my database and having to create a new one and import a backup.

I tried installing wordpress again. I did it manually, creating a new database, but I deleted everything because my other blog stopped working.

I really need help installing a seperate blog in the main directory. If anyone can help me, please feel free to PM me or post on here.

Sorry for being confused, but...

You want multiple installs of Wordpress.
One installation is in the main htdocs directory.
The second installation is in the subdirectory preteenblog. (Or is it?)

Was the first installation of Wordpress (in htdocs) done with Install Central or manually?

Was the second installation done with Install Central (at one time), though you said you installed manually?

I really need help installing a seperate blog in the main directory. If anyone can help me, please feel free to PM me or post on here.

Are you trying to have two Wordpress blogs in htdocs or is one in a subdirectory?

Is your preteenblog directory inside or outside htdocs?

Oh, I forgot to ask you about .htaccess or any domain management on your website. Any other interesting facts that may affect your account?

Its under the subdirectory called blog....At one point I had it pointing to the address artboycat.com/preteenblog...but the folder was always named blog.

It was done with Install Central.

Was the second installation done with Install Central (at one time), though you said you installed manually?

The second installation was done with Install Central. I removed it and then tried installing it manually. The manual installation ruined the preteenblog one so i removed it. Now the preteenblog is running again.

I want to have one in htdocs and one in the subdirectory. One is already in the subdirectory labeled blog.

Is your preteenblog directory inside or outside htdocs?

It is inside htdocs under a directory called blog.

Okay, you have one in the main directory and another in the subdirectory blog. What are you trying to do? You said you want TWO in the main directory?!

hmm maybe im not explaining it correctly. I have one now at this location

http://www.artboycat.com/blog/

thats all i have installed at the moment

I want to install another wordpress blog in the main directory of the site, so when I go to artboycat.com there is a wordpress blog independent from the one above.

Oh! Was there EVER a Wordpress blog installed in the main directory? If so, was it installed and deleted manually or with the Instant installer? Sometimes the installer doesn't uninstall properly, so when you try to create a(nother) blog, it won't let you. You may need support if that is the case.

Thanks for explaining.

yes there was. I think the first time I used uninstaller and then dumped the database...second time i didn't get through the whole installation process and just deleted manually what was there...which i had accidentally uploaded in another subdirectory...so I just deleted that folder...

Yep, that's the problem. This is one reason why I hate Instant Installations. They must be successfully uninstalled using the same method or your account is "tainted". You were not supposed to manually delete a folder that contained an installation of this program. Contact support and tell them what we said in this thread. I hope they can fix your account for you.

Once you get this problem resolved, we can look at your CSS again. ;)

I fixed the issue...I think the problem was that I had a htaccess file which said options-indexes. Once I got rid of it and tried a manual install in the main directory it seemed to work. Maybe that wasn't a smart move, but it worked. Now both blogs are running and so far haven't encountered any problems, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed...Now I just have to fix the alignment issues at artboycat.com.

Thanks for the help!

So it WAS .htaccess?! The options-indexes (http://www.rixort.com/tutorials/apache-htaccess.php) with the minus is supposed to protect files inside the directory from being found when someone tries to view your directory (normally people will snoop in image, music and video directories). I used to simply place a blank index file in the directory to disallow people from visiting domain.com/images and seeing a directory of images to steal.
