View Full Version : NeroVision can't create new files in "My Documents" folder?

I am running Nero Ultra Edition 8 which contains the video-editing program NeroVision 5. My operating system is Windows XP SP3.

When exporting a video from NeroVision to a file, if I select MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, I cannot save the file to my "My Documents" folder or any sub-folder of it. I get an error message "Error occurred during export process" with no further explanation.

If I save the file as AVI, I can save it to that folder.

If exporting as MPEG-2, I can save it to my desktop and then move it to "My Documents" without a problem.

Nero's online help is about as useful as an extra hole in the head, so I was hoping someone here would know what was going on. Notice, though, that this just started recently (within 2 weeks).

When did you load SP3? We're not letting users here where I work load it as it's a bit buggy.

It came through Automatic Updates a couple weeks ago.
Oh crap. you're right, that was right about the same time.
I remember hearing shortly after that, that MS pulled it from Automatic Updates.

I also just remembered that, for about the same amount of time, FireFox downloads won't allow me to save them in the "My Documents" folder, either. It tries to let me, downloads the file in the ".part" format, but can't reassemble the file once the download is complete. Error message: "could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder. Change the folder properties and try again, or save the file in a different location."

So, it appears that Nero isn't the only problem. It's just odd that it lets me save .AVI but not .MPG.

While playing around I just noticed that all of the files and folders in My Documents appear to be tagged as "Read-Only", so did that "upgrade" screw something up?

I tried to follow MS's instructions ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326549 ) but it didn't remove the Read-Only tag.

Someone point out to Ian that even Doc C can be right on occasion. :D

I'll see if any one here at work has an idea for you, Sparhawk.
