Hello all,

I though maybe someone will be kind enough to shed some light to me, you see I am having this problem with this PC and I though that if I reformated it would help (since I have done it before and my pc goes back to being fast again) so I did, but now, everytime I start my pc, you know the logo window says "Starting your PC?" yes well mine stays there for a very long time and finally loads. So I was wondering what was wrong with it and decide to do a little boot up disk to find out, appears that both my MATS + and Stride 6 are VERYYYYY slow, and I know they meant the ram so I though of removing one of my two each time I retarted my pc to see which one was damage, but it ends up being the same results....

My PC is Windows XP Home. I had her for...too many years to count, probably 2002? 2003? I lost track. Originally this pc only had 256 of ram, but I added another ram making it 514 (I think that's right) and it has not being giving me issues since, but now...

She's a Compaq, AMD Sempron (tm) 3000+
2.00 GHz. (It reads the rams so) 448 of Ram.
And I just finished updating her with Winows (Since I reformated), but I still have the old IE Internet explore.

So please help! I am so lost....sometimes my PC freeze for even the most tiniest application open, but the disk boot has yet to tell me the test has failed, just veryyyy slow (one time it froze). Anyone knows? =/

The RAM would be 512 as it is added in 256 increments. Is the memory matched?

What model number is it? AMD Sempron 3000 is the processor.

Should be on the case somewhere usually on a lable on the bottom or near the keyboard.

A five year old laptop has pretty much lived out it's life. It might be time to look for a new one.

Well is not on the PC, and if it was on the keyboard, sadly I don't have my old one. (I had to replace it). But thanks for trying. x.x I figure as much...

i'll add to the sentiment - it's time to bid it farewell

model # is sometimes reported in the same place as processor and RAM (right click on my computer, select properties).

there are many things it could be...given the age, it's probably not worth fixing since it seems like something you'll need to take to a shop for repair. if the hard drive is still good, you can hook it up to a new computer to pull your files off of it.

Is that a laptop or a desktop? I'm confused.

not sure where you got laptop from; i've thought desktop all along...but I'm not in IT :). i'm not thinking the OP could replace a laptop keyboard.

I Google'd Compaq and Sempron and it only was showing laptops.

My guess would be the chipset drivers aren't loaded properly. Either that or you have a physical problem with the machine. If you have a recovery CD or something like that, I'd say load that... it'll at least have the right drivers in there. If not, I'd suggest checking Dell's site for downloads of drivers for that computer. Of course, for that you'll need to know the model and all that. It should be on documentation if you have any of that.

Personally, I'd suggest buying a new laptop. 600 bones will get you a decent machine nowadays and you won't have to mess around with loading drivers or whatnot. Just give the old box to someone's kid, chances are they'll figure it out (or blow it up completely).

Ah Sorry everyone, its a desktop PC. I am too poor for a laptop. XD
