I just went to get a banner link and... decided to settle for a text link.

I'm not sure if this is still being actively managed or pushed, but some of the banner ads are wayyyyy out of date. Remember when the quota was 40GB? - you'll find a badge to remind you. And I'm not even going to bring up pricing... lets just say they are misleading.

Good Point Kitbear, it is actively managed, it's a full time job updating any one of Powweb's facets. I'll try to make those responsible aware of your post here.

Hello Kitbear,

Yes, the program is actively managed.

There is a valid reason that some of the banners are out of date. Unfortunately some affiliates are still using them; even though we have sent out affiliate messaging letting them know that we have made changes to our hosting plans. If we were to remove those banners we might break the customers' sites where these banners are still being used. I am sure you would agree that you would be quite upset is we removed a banner that you were still using and it broke your site....

Therefore, we keep the old banners active for those affiliate that still use them and add current and updated banners for those of you whom want to use banners matching the current offering on the site.

I do understand that there are a lot of banners in there and it can be a nit cluttered, but we are only trying to be fair to ALL our affiliates.

PS - More banners are coming soon!

Couldn't you just overwrite the old banners so that those linking to them could automatically see the new banner?

Good idea, tacimala. Can't an outdated banner be replaced by putting up a new one with the same name and size? That shouldn't break anything.

No unfortunately our system is kind of limited in that way. We are working on building it out so we can, but at this time this is the only solution.

I just avoid affiliate links that have specific data on them such as prices and space. Makes it easier.

Yes, well, unfortunately all those banners where created an uploaded before my time. I can only change the things I personally have any control over. Also, we have to advertise price, and that is a constantly changing variable in today's market place. So, unfortunately until the new affiliate system upgrades are in place we are going to have to live with this method. But since PowWeb is now offering unlimited diskspace and bandwidth quotas at least that is one less variable that we have to worry about changing on our banners.

Again, I am sorry for any inconvenience this my cause our valuable affiliate. But rest assured that a change is on the way.

If you haven't noticed yet, there have been many changes to the affiliate program as of late. We have changed the way you are able to run your reports and the type of information you get by running those reports. If you haven't had a chance to see the changes (assuming that you remember how the reporting was done prior), I suggest you login to your affiliate account and check it out. You will see that you can now run reports by selecting a date range and that it shows you all your sales daily as well as totaled up at the bottom. It also now has clicks and sales on the same report. And if you click the 'click though report' link and run a date range, all your salse are now broken down by link name.

So, as you can see we have been making improvements to the affiliate system and more are soon to come - including the ability to update banners. So, as this my be a small inconvenience at the moment, it wont last long.

I have one sale for a commission of $77.77 reported for May 17, 2008. My tax form is marked received and approved and I should have received a check, but I didn't yet. With monthly payouts, I would have expected the check to have been sent. When should I expect to receive the check?

Now you know, No Anwers re Affiliate payouts/status here, Yvette! --- you could post a SC ticket to get it reviewed ... ;)

I don't know about the affiliate thing. I don't follow it. I only knew about this payment after someone else asked a question and I found it. I thought maybe the recent change made the payment get (temporarily) lost as it did a few years ago during the change. If a check appears, it is a welcome surprise and not something I expect.

They have improved the handling of Affiliate payouts -- I think they used to be swamped getting all the tracking done; I rarely hear of any issues anymore ...

I remember getting checks before and the reports are organized. I was just curious to know if the check was mailed but not received. The report said it would be issued June 23rd, so I would have received it by now. Kinda worried that it got lost in the mail this time. After that woman illegally used my credit card in Las Vegas, I am paranoid!

After reporting in OPS support console, a reply said the check should be coming in a few weeks, issued 45 days after the sale. I'll wait another month. Maybe it will come in time for my birthday (after Labor Day).

Hey, no more about this. :)

(I think Yvette just didn't want people to forget her birthday!)

yes, thankfully the woman in Vegas gave me the correct birthday...

Why don't we get an email when someone buys a Powweb package through our affiliate link on our website?

I belong to several affiliate programs and I don't get notified about any purchases.

Why don't you just use the PowWeb Affiliate Console?

YvetteKuhns

An email notification would be convenient to us, but it would also use more resources to send an email for each referral. As Doc said, we can simply log into the Console each month.

I did it, but unless there is another way to see this information, that I don’t know, there you can only find the user name that our customer used, but with that you can’t tell who is or from where. And I would like to know this.

You can type username.powweb.com to see that user's website. That could give you a clue who the person is and maybe more.

do a lot of affiliate programs require us to pay taxes?
1 of the main reasons why i do online business (ecommerce) is to avoid taxes. Why should i pay to keep criminals fed and pay coward cops' paychecks.. They rather stake out in the front of my gated community for speeding..

Anyway, sticking on track: Is it common to have to pay taxes for affiliate programs?

Any income you make in the United States more than $600 annually, you're required to pay taxes on, regardless of your views on what those taxes go to do.

Not paying taxes on money you make is known as tax fraud, and is punishable by time in prison, and ridiculous amounts of fines.

You may want to think twice next time you openly admit to not paying taxes, on a publicly available forum.

I think Brandon meant that he doesn't have to worry about paying the state or federal taxes for online income when the other party is from another state. Electronic filing for the state requests payments quarterly, biannually or annually depending on your income. This DOES include affiliate income for reported income but not necessarily taxable income. I dread the new year and having to scrape up the money to pay the state taxes. ;^)
