View Full Version : Anyone using AgoraCart Gold?

I first tried OliveCart for a shopping cart for my site, but kept running into dead-ends so I thought I would switch to AgoraCart since POWWEB offers it in under InstallCentral. I installed the free version first and got it sort of working. It took total control of my site design as far as listing products and offering Add to Cart options, etc. After reading the documentation, I discovered that there are ways to integrate it into your site and use your own HTML, etc. for your store organization, etc. and call their CGI when you need to use cart processing. It did seem to be a rather daunting task, however, so I decided to sign up for the AgoraCart Gold Lifetime membership for a mere $55. This is supposed to give me access to a lot more files and functionality and a Pro user community to tap into for support. I now have access to the Gold Member forums and downloads sections but am even more intimidated because everyone there seems to be orders of magnitude ahead of me in the eCommerce game. I'm afraid to post a simple, stupid question about basic installation of the Gold version for fear of being ridiculed. Yes, that's stupid. But if someone here has already been down that road, perhaps I could get a couple of basic questions answered in a less intimidating environment here at POWWEB.

Today I uninstalled the Basic AgoraCart installation and uploaded the FTPgold55.cgi script to my root (home/htdocs) directory. I used http to launch the script as instructed and it came back and told me that one of the PERL modules (LWP::UserAgent : installed BUT OUTDATED ) was too old to work. Also, a bigger problem, since WHOIS returned the user wwwuser, rather than my username, it suggests that I am unable to use the install script at all:

If the Unix whoami command and/or the UID response is: 'nobody', 'www', 'apache', or something other than your username (typically the ID you use to login with when accessing your hosting account), you should NOT use this install script, and you might also need to install wrappers.

I logged a ticket with POWWEB about these but they are working on it and have not yet responded, so I thought I would take this time to see if any other POWWEB customers have encountered this same problem in the past and gotten past it.

Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think PowWeb tech support is going to be able to work on a third party software.

Most forums welcome new members and rarely do they ridicule simple questions provided you've searched their forums and it's not been answered before.

My suggestion is to ask in their forum - do they have a beginners section?
Powweb can't be the only host that runs with outdated PERL modules, maybe their forum members have the necessary wrappers to get things working. Give it a go.

I agree with Doc, Powweb support staff will probably eventually come back to you and say everything is working as expected at Powweb and they don't support or troubleshoot third party software that isn't working as expected because of Powweb's setup.
