I'm a student and am kind of new to Web Designing. For one of my classes, I had to create a site that uses embedded music. So I downloaded some music in iTunes and converted it to MP3 format.

From there, I converted them into WAV format. The file size exceeded Powwebs limit, even at the lowest quality (which sounds horrible, by the way).

So how do I get the music I want to upload?

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

It is against PowWeb policy to host copyrighted music without permission. Did you try downloading public domain music?

I have uploaded mp3s and wavs with no problems on PowWeb (with permission). I uploaded through a third party FTP program such as FileZilla, SmartFTP, CuteFTP and CoreFTP easily. File sizes are anywhere from 5 to more than 7 mb in mp3 format. What file size are you using?

Why did you convert music to wav files? Were you trying to make the file size smaller?

Thanks for shedding some light for me! Where do I find public domain audio? Is there a particular site?

I had converted to wav files because powweb kept saying mp3 wasn't a format they accept.

I've uploaded .mp3 files, with an FTP cient, but perhaps the File Manager upload thing in OPS doesn't allow .mp3's.

Here's a google link.. http://www.google.com/search?q=public+domain+audio

I didn't try File Manager to upload mp3 files, but I read from other comments that it times out when uploading large files.

I also seem to recall people having issues with the FileManager limiting the extensions that were allowed.

Yes, it's true, filemanager does limit file extensions. I've occasionally needed to use it when uploading stuff from behind a content filter. The fix is obviously to use FTP... no limitations there. I would also recommend just leaving the files in mp3 format, maybe down-sampled to 128kbps for file-size and streaming reasons.

Here's a link to the open source audio archive. http://www.archive.org/details/opensource_audio Lots of stuff you can legally repost.

For security reasons, FileManager uploads only the following file types: asp, aspx, bas, cfm, cgi, css, doc, dwf, gif, htm, html, ico, inc, jpeg, jpg, js, pdf, php, php3, pl, pm, png, ppt, py, shtm, shtml, sql, swf, txt, wmv, xls, xml, and anything 5-10Mb or larger in filesize will probably fail.

FileZilla is a free FTP program or use ftp://ftp.powweb.com in Windows Explorer. CyberDuck is a free FTP program for Mac users.
