View Full Version : Unable to connect to MySQL database

Using the 'new' MySQL server hostname format (opsusername.powwebmysql.com), I am unable to connect to database... with the "Unknown MySQL server host '(opsusername).powwebmysql.com' (1) error message.
CGI shows that it is set to 'Active'. There is no link (easily found anyway) that allows me to confirm CGI is set to active--or set it inactive. Maybe it would be a good idea to have one of those?

Is all of your database login information correct? Or maybe the server was busy? opsusername.powwebmysql.com is the correct format which has been working for most of us for a while. Check the username and password in your config file. Check for typos.

I think that the active/inactive link was removed when PowWeb decided to finally make CGI active for all accounts.

I contacted help desk via chat-- the guy had me use the old format: pow19.powwebmysql.com
and the connection works fine. Nope, wasn't a typo on my part.

Just curious, what does it say when you go to phpmyadmin? I wonder why you need to use pow19 while most use the ops username. Glad you got it working.

There was another discussion on this recently. I won't know what the root cause is/was, but I know that dmacminn wasn't happy that support was having users change it to database name instead of account name. Works good now, but could cause problems if they ever need to move stuff between databases.

So, the problem wasn't resolved when it was discussed earlier?! I thought I was having deja vu. Thanks.
