Hey PW forum!

I just got a new tablet PC and am loving using it. I have Windows Journal on the comp which unfortunately exports files in just two formats... .tif and .mht.

The .tif ends up with a really low resolution and isn't really readable.

The .mht file is great, and works when I email it to myself. It works to open it in Outlook, and IE, when I open it both on my new tablet and on my old computer.

The challenge:

When I upload the .mht file to my PW hosting account, it doesn't work.

EX:

(The tif is here: http://www.iwillinc.com/gapflixprocess.tif)

Thinking it was just that file having issues, I tried another

Is this because of some file issue happening on the UNIX server vs. Windows program or...? Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!
Jonathan

One other thing... I did try uploading the file in both ASCII and Binary, and that was to no avail...

Any help much appreciated.

A huge WAG here but since the .mht file contains mixed media (text and graphics) you'll probably have to convert the file to separate HTML and graphics files before you upload it.
Maybe something here will help:

Either that or be satisfied with the TIF file ;)

Good luck,
Kevin

It should be ok to just upload the .mht in ASCII mode.

We convert the files to HTML files to be viewed online. I hate proprietary formats and try to avoid them whenever possible.

As usual, Yvette, you are a great voice of reason. Thank-you!

And Builder, your thoughts led me on a little search which landed me on this nifty little app someone built...

MHTML 2 Gif converter...

Not 100% what I was looking for, but VERY helpful as a short-term fix.

THanks everyone!

There is an online app that converts pages to pdf and send them to you for free. That is better than a gif and you can convert a pdf to html, but why go through all that trouble? I only did that when a client sent proprietary formats to me and I didn't want to wait for him to figure out how to send html to me by email. He didn't know how to convert the file, upload it to the server or send it by email! ;)
