A co-worker of mine has a stock Compaq S6000CL with 1GB DDR RAM, running Windows XP Home Edition, however, when the computer starts, there is no POST screen, BIOS, splash screen or anything because the video (monitor) turns on then goes from green light to amber light. I have reformatted the HDD via my Dell desktop computer and confirmed the drive to be good, tested the RAM and run a PCI Motherboard tester like this one on the computer:

but it comes up with four dashes, no error codes. ( - - - - ) on the four-digit display.
Could it be that the onboard video is bad? Or might the processor be bad?
Do you have a video card you can put in the machine? Or is it a laptop? If you put in another video card, it should override a defective onboard one and give you some kind of display. Are you sure the monitor is good?

It is a desktop. Here are the specs since it IS a factory machine (no upgrades). I did however, add another 512MB stick to max out the RAM.

Monitor is confirmed good. I hooked it to my wife's laptop and it displays fine. I do not have a PCI video card to test it with, but I can let the co-worker know and have her reimburse me when I buy one.
UPDATE -
Bought a PCI video card and new processor. Installed them both (used thermal compound when installing the processor) and now it shuts off when I power it up.
Replaced the mobo battery. Checked the power supply. Even plugged the tower and monitor into a new outlet that works.
Still no video...could it be a bad motherboard?
Seems to be pointing in that direction, Bobby. You've replaced just about everything else! :)
Been doing this for a very long time. Every so often, I get it right.
the optimist would say 'it's a new doorstop'.
I've three doorstops, including cases, lying around!
I hate to see that though..the client has spent $77 on the video card and new processor...guess I'll have to track down a Socket A motherboard for her now...

UPDATE:
Found a motherboard for the computer...it will arrive sometime today. I will get the old computer disassembled, install the new motherboard, then add the processor, heat sink + fan, RAM, CDROM, DVD drive, HDD, floppy, video and modem and pray that fixes it.
It did not fix it. The co-worker decided to scrap the machine, so I kept the good parts and am building a new one.
Monitor, processor, heat sink, 2 case fans, video card, power supply, CD-R drive, DVD drive, 20GB HDD all confirmed good...motherboard is new also. Monitor confirmed good via wife's laptop.
