I am trying to install a predesigned site through and install script on our site. I have installed it on other servers and it works flawlessly but the powweb server won't find or populate database using msql host name username.powwebmysql.com

The MySQL host address should be as you stated, and not localhost. Also the FTP host address should be ftp.powweb.com, not localhost.
Is there supposed to be some kind of prefix on the database name? I did a manual install again and fixed the configuration.php file and I don't get any errors now except site is down temporarily can't connect to database.
No. Does the install script you're using create the databases, and then populate them, or do they have to be created first? Also, make sure the user and pass are correct.

You create the database like a regular joomla install. Username and passy are fine. This is just a regular joomla 1.015 install but its packaged with all the modules and the page is already laid out.

Are you getting an error or does it just not populate?
Can you walk us through the steps of what you are doing?

I get an error that says cannot connect to mysql database. I manually extracted all of the files because the installer couldn't connect to database. Then I created a database for the site and then manually configured the configuration.php to point to the new database and it still says cannot connect to databse.

Are you getting the error when you try to walk through the install/configuration script? If I remember my install correctly Joomla modified the configuration.php file for me based on data I put in during the configuration process.

Fixed for now. I had to use mysqlxx.powweb.com format for server host. Which I don't get. They said they don't support that anymore and to use the username.powwebmysql.com format, but that way I can't connect to the database. I hope this doesn't cause problems down the road, but as of right now its working fine.

We have seen that before...there is a certain helpful staff member that usually stops by here that might be able to get it corrected for you.

It sounds like when you signed up your username.powwebmysql.com dns record did not get fulfilled properly.
This happens once in a while and its easy to get fixed if you contact support.
We do like for customers to use this address and not the mysqlxx address or the ip of the box. There are rare occasions where we shift databases around from one physical server to another. All we need to do on our end is change the DNS entry for username.powwebmysql.com and then your magically migrated to the new machine. The process is so smooth you wont even notice. BUT if you use some other form of address then likely your site will go down and you need to contact us to find out why. Which is not a good time.
