I have wmv files on my web site that play well and are about 4-5 minutes. Now, I want to have a link from my site to youtube that plays that video.
How can I copy the wmv from my site as a file youtube recognizes.
I dont have the original dvd or vhs tapes, just what is in my folder on the ftp files in the wmv format.
Can a non-tech newbiee like me handle this?

I dont understand? Is it possible to extract /copy/transfer video from my site to youtube without having the actual wmv video in my possession? My web master has access to it, but will charge me an arm and a leg and will take several weeks if she is going to work on this.
I am not very good at riddles, just action.
While I appreciate your reply, can you be more specific.

I would think that you would have to have physical possession of a video file in order to run through whatever conversion process. See what info is available here, wmv convert youtube - Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?q=wmv+convert+youtube)

You are probably wondering why I am not a web master and can figure this out.
I am an internet marketer who makes money by marketing product and service.
Therefore, I am not very techical on these things.
Therefore, when I post a comment, I would and in the past, as I have been a member for 3-4 years now, have gotten a very specific reply and help from some of you guys out there.
Lately, some of the moderators have given timely but very shallow answers and to a guy like me, it does no good.
I spend my time developing scripts, sales strategies and making serious money while working 4 hours a week. (buy the book from Ferris.)
If you asked me a question about that, I would reply very specifically, and show you how to make money on the internet with your passion.
Like if you asked me is it possbile to generate $10,000 on a single campaging in 48 hours, I can show you as I just built my mouse trap and caught 402 registrations in 48 hours from my first blistz.
My blistz cost me ZERO dollars and the registration fee was $25.
Now if you do the math, you will see that I dont have time or care about "wise guy answers" like "Four words: Google is your friend. See what you can find."
Thanks, but that is an insult to me.
Therefore, if there is another moderator or member who has knowledge about what I am asking, that would be dandy.
Thank you.

How can you convert something you don't even have possession of?

You might want to back your arrogance down a notch or two if you want to keep getting answers from people. Regardless of who you are on your side of the monitor, on this side we are all the same. Nothing more than typed text.

You are not clear in what you are doing and have stated to different things here in your 2 posts so it is hard to give you a straight answer.

In your first post you said that you do not have access to the original DVD/VHS versions of the files, but you did have access to the files on your website. In your second post you indicate that you do not even have access to the WMV file or whatever is loaded on your website.

My big issue, and the reason that I did not answer the question when I first saw it, is that you are not clear on what you are trying to accomplish. If the videos are running fine on your site, why are you trying to upload them to YouTube and link to them over there? What type of link are you trying to create?

I have found that if you ask a general question here you will get a general answer. If you ask a specific question, you will get a specific answer.

So, if you clearly state your problem and your end goal, I am sure you will get the complete answer you are looking for.

(On a side note, it might be time to find a new web developer)

okay, thanks for the reality check. just frustrated little ole me. I am running into bandwidth problems whenever there is a marketing blitz. That is why I need to have links on this site so the videos play else where and I save that bandwidth. sorry if I did not convey that.
This is the one and only site, of all the sites that I am responsible for, that is not hosted on powweb, my other sites are all hosted on powweb however. I took it over from another source and there is a database run from it and am afraid to convert it to powweb. So, I am stuck with this problem. The plan is priced well, just there is a limit on bandwidth and the client went over the limit as a result of the blitzs that I do. Thanks for any suggestions you can make.

Are you able to FTP the video files from the server where they are hosted?

I have one site with you and am very pleased.
I have another site hosted elsewhere. <<name removed>>
They have my database and have been doing a good job.
My reason for wanting to move that site to powweb is because of the bandwith issue from videos I have on my home page and press page.
I would like to move the videos to powweb and create a press page so when they click on watch video, it directs them to my powweb video press page.
Is this do-able and is it cool.
Please advise.
The site of mention is www.janisspindelmatchmaker.com
Thank you. Allen

yes, the videos are held in the ftp files in a wmv format.

I have a 100GB package bandwidth per month and on blitz days, I go over that. Either I disable all of the videos and just have one, the most recent video play, or I have to move those videos to another site to handle the bandwidth.

If you own the video copyrights Allen simply create a YouTube account and upload them thru there. YouTube accepts wmv and does the conversion. If you tick the appropriate checkboxes during the process you'll be provided with a link to your YouTube video page plus embed code you can then place on your websites pages. Using this embed code on your pages allows you to display video on your site using YouTube's bandwith (leeching). While many sites block leeching this is how YouTube works, they encourage it.

I know you've learnt alot here at Powweb but I encourage you to pay someone tech-savvy and reliable who knows how to do these things quickly and easily so you can focus on the marketing aspects. PM me for names if you wish.

I'm not really into video allen, so this may or may not help. Would something along these lines help any? They also have a wmv player.

To clarify... it is a player that you embed on your page. I don't know if converting the wmv's to flv saves any bandwidth though.

symo is correct, you will use less bandwidth with FLVs than wmv's
as a test to give you some numbers I just converted a quicktime movie 63 mbs to a flv it came out at 776 kb, with out any changes in the movie (same size etc..) . I would have converted a wmv for the test but
I have none. Also you have a lot more control with the movie using FLVs, as long as the person converting them has some experience with Flash

Hope this info helps

JW FLV is eh.. I use a variation of the original code. In general FLV will use less bandwidth than WMV on any host/your bandwidth -- playing via Google's embed code uses near zero in comparison and requires near no "code" knowledge. It's copy paste or click of a button.

Cracks me up leeching bandwith is still thought of as server abuse. Like it or not social newtworking sites like FaceBook MySpace Twitter Blogger YouTube etc are leading the net and for the most part share bandwidth. They encourage sharing your "content" which carries a link back to them. A YouTube channel allows you to add any one of their 'tagged' 3 million videos on your MySpace page for example with one click -- at their bandwidth's expense. That's smart marketing lead in's.

No serious marketer I know has an AWebber or 1Shop type account without having already registered/reserved their name "brand" on all popular social networking sites.
