Geez not again !!

space is giving me:

Warning: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (61) in /www/s/XXXXX/htdocs/pnadodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 108

Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (61) in /www/s/XXXXX/htdocs/pnadodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 108
mysql://XXXXXX:@localhost/XXXXX failed to connectCan't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (61)

Now you notice I've XXXX'd out my DB name and DB user name here - but ANYBODY looking at my site (RIGHT NOW) gets served both - what the hell is wrong here?

phpMyAdmin cannot access anything either and neither can I through powweb ops

C'mon POWWEB - where's the support here and answers to all the questions?

AND when you fix it - what state will my database be in afterwards?

I have 3 sites with you guys and after the last few weeks I've just about had it - if there's DB damage here - that'll finish me - I've just spent weeks setting up a site and my last DB backup was 4 days ago - since then I've put about 40 hours into it - hope it's all still there somewhere !

I'm have the same trouble.

Warning: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'space.powweb.com' (60)

Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'space.powweb.com' (60) phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

Very dissappointing. My site itself seems to be working normally again after the past couple of days, but now this.

Just wondering is anyone with their sites hosted on other powweb servers having the same problems with MySQL?

Space server seems to be fine at this time, but yes mySQL on space still may have issues. Please be patient while the admins work through these issues.

Thanks for the reply Alpha and your "be patient" advice is of course sound, but let's not forget that many of us are becoming very accustomed to receiving that advice . . .

Frankly , it's becoming a bit of a lottery these days - "which of my sites will be down today and for how long?"

But again - thanks for your reply - Powweb admins seem to be conspicuous by their absence!

If by that you mean not lingering around in the forums instead of putting out fires I guess that would be accurate. Would you prefer it the other way around?

See my post in this thread. It may help you understand why the admins are not here.

It's clear we don't know each other otherwise you would not have interpreted my sentiments as you did - nor would you have been so patronising

Like you I've administred numerous forums and web sites since 1995 and BBSs before that.

Of course I expect the admins to be "putting out the fires" - but in my experience, good solid communication/feedback will always remove or reduce "customer" frustration, that is my minimum expectation as a powweb customer.

I can and will always be sympathetic to difficulties - but I will never accept a supplier who makes no "official" effort to advise his customers what has gone wrong with the service , especially when so many are here complaining.

In closing - I quote just one other customer from another thread:

"Or at least update us on what's going on? Not hearing anything, or any estimates on when it will be back up is making it worse"

That is the absence I'm referring to . . .

I don't think you need to "linger in the forums" when you have a PowWeb Announcements forum. Simply start a thread indicating what problems you are working on and update it from time to time. This only takes a minute of your time but pays off in huge dividends of customer satisfaction. I think you will find that the general consensus is that your customers would much rather have you take a break from working on the problem in order to communicate to them what's happening. :)
