There is also one called PHP BB. I think that one id superior... but it's quite a pain in the arse to get a good PHP/MySQL board to ork on here with their CGI PHP version.

i must say im a little intimidated at the thought of trying to use the cgi php thing.. i know nothing about php (I used it a little at a free server to practice, but the server was down too often for me to get a real hang of it).
I think Ill worry about passing my exams before I fork out for a database and tear my hair out over php *sigh*
I just recommended ikonboard because its easy to set up and straightforward to use, and resembles some popular forum scripts (ubb) the difference being its free to use.

ikonboard also allows you to hack and change their board in about anyway you choose as long as their copyright stays at the bottom and has a superb forum for support, hacks, and add ons!

MySql version of Ikonboard is as good as paid forums and very fast ;)

the free ezboards is always a good option...as long as you have a "webwasher" for all those nasty ads. (Matter of fact, I think they have gotten worse recently)
Check out the Forum I use at http://www.hobby-world.com/cgi-bin/webbbs_config.pl
I use WebBBS. It is a great program and fully customizable. You can go directly to their site at http://awsd.com/scripts/webbbs/
Good Luck!!

I use FrontPage 2000 for my web site and have found no problems in the included Discussion Forums generated.

Heh, your rates are more expensive than mine and I do all my crap by hand... *considers charging more for design services*
i have found the easiest forum to install on powweb to be the latest in the version 2.x series of ikonboard. I recently set one up for a client, and it literally took me 10 minutes to get it up and running. That's quite a shot less than it takes me to install a php based board.
I just installed Ikonboard and I like it a lot.

As you can see this forum is run with the PHP-CGI vBulletin forum. It is one of the best forums I have see. There is also a PORTAL Front end for this in case you only want to have the forum as your web site.
vbPortal for a fine frontend (http://phpportals.com/)
I would be glad to help with any issues... as I have time... for those who have problems with vBulletin. When I loaded mine vBulletin was only able to help with suggestions because they were not configured like Powweb. I have loaded and reloaded - just to learn and test... that I think I have it down pat... loading and running that is.
There is so much more for this bulletin board than most I have seen. The other bulletin is PHP Nuke (http://www.phpnuke.org/). This too is more powerful than IkonBoards.
It depends on what you need and the appearance you wish to convey to your endusers. My board is a hobby board and it is nice to have a calendar so that I can add meetings and events that users might be interested in. It is new with no members at the moment but you can see what a little customizing can do too.

Kehf

I don't think this one is running on a customer account- see topic:

Please see this topic (http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?threadid=1213)- you (if interested) would be a great help on trying to get some of these install documented.
As for the original topic- OpenBB is a very good board and I just finished a flawless install. It is php / MySQL powered. Can see it installed here (http://www.cahsalumni.com/openbb/).
Simple directions are in this topic (http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?threadid=1213)
Also- phpNuke in itself is not a forum (version 5.4 beta yes- not a good one, but 5.2 / 5.31- no). In most cases- a forum has been modified to work as a module in nuke. Note however- nuke on PowWeb is also a major challenge.

middleground, Nuke is DEFINITELY not a challenge. I can get Nuke installed for anyone on Powweb within 10 or so minutes. Check it out:

Looks great. Soory, I thought it was a bit more trouble (for the average user who doesn't mess with php / file editing- the upload and go types)
Would you be interested in sharing the details?
