View Full Version : needed: quick and easy way to put video on site (not using youtube)
I think the title says it all. I have the need to put a video on a PowWeb hosted website.
Quick and dirty would be the best. I'll have to turn it over to a relative novice with web stuff so the simpler the better.
And yes, I should know this but have too much on my plate right now.
Thanks in advance.

I don't recommend simply uploading a wmv file. It is large, takes a while to load and not everyone uses Windows Media Player. I recommend converting the video to flv format using this free program (http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-Video-to-Flash-Converter.htm) and using a Flash player to play the video. I can send the file to you. See http://powerpageswebdesign.com/test/testGarfieldVideo.htm to view the source code. This is the cheapest, quickest and easiest method to embed a video (you host) in a web page.
I used CoffeeCup's video player to do something similar (it's a trial version). Only problem is that the screen is all scrunched up and the subtitles can't be read.
I can PM a link if you want to see.
I'd rep ya for the help, Yvette but I'm fresh out. I found a 30 day trial of a flash player that would let me adjust the size. Showed a prelim to the "customer" and he is happy.

I hate using trial versions. They run out and many times I don't even use the software. Then I have to uninstall it or else I have too much clutter in My Programs. ;)
If you use the program I mentioned, you can change the size. I actually have Flash software but for simple conversions, I don't need to use it.
If you need something in a hurry and your customer is happy, that is great. If you decide to try the other method, just ask for the player.flv file. You can PM the link to show me how your method worked.
It's really great. I like it very much.
Thanks for the feedback. That is very useful.

One of the great ways I've found to find interesting new software is that giveawayoftheday.com site. Every day a chosen author gives away -registered- rights to his software until midnight -then it's some other program. The registrations are permanent, not trial or temporary. If you don't like them, uninstall them. Although some are ho-hum, some have been truly exceptional.

I try to avoid them. The link I posted is FREEWARE and not a trial that eventually asks for money or has limited features.

I have personally used the software on the link I provided and I scan my computer with AdAware, SpyBot, antivirus and other software to protect my computer. You would probably see a warning with most downloads, especially for programs that are added to your list of software that starts at bootup.
It's been completed. I should have noted that in this thread. The guy is happy and not bugging me all the time now!
