How or Can you find out who gave you Reputation Points?

snowmaker

In the Control Panel (User CP), under the heading 'Latest Reputation Received'

tpoynton

it doesnt say who, though, right? I've given rep points on other people's behalf without even posting in the thread, or just because I thought something was really useful.

Ya it does, in the 'Posted By' column

tpoynton

I have Thread, Date, and Comment columns, no Posted By...am I special?

It doesn't look like the attachment?

Try in 'Options' , 'Show My Reputation Level'. Mine is checked.. Other than that, which may or may not solve the problem, I'm at a loss..

Edit: Well I tried this, and all it does is enable/disable the 'Rep Section' in User CP.

I have the same as tpoynton.

it's a benefit of being a mod. There has to be at least one :)

snowmaker

Well both (entrecon & tpoynton) your reps are greater than mine, so that's not part of the issue.. at first I was thinking 'maybe a certain # of reps need to be there..'

Well they offered to pay me handsomely, but I said no, just let me see who's given me rep points..

I give out reps to people on threads I have not commented on, just thought it was nice to award rep point to good information or advice I have gained from the forum.
Just wondered if anyone was able to see who returned the favour.

Well I see like the image I attached to a previous post here, so I thought everybody could (in their User CP) see who has given them reps, but I guess not.

Bruce, it does seem an odd power to give to mods only! For clarity, I'm going to try to attach my first screenshot to a post...

Yes, it does seem an odd power. I will bring it up in the mod forum, and share what I find out..

I do get a pop-up when I log in the first time after I get rep points and it says who gave them.

Cool, thanks entrecon, I will give it a try when I get to work.

I've never gotten that pop up. Interesting!

Curious myself, I went into User CP and did not see anything about "Reputation" - is it under another section or something?

coan.net,
If you click on the User CP, once the page displays scroll down to see the reputation.
You might have to click on the down buttom \/ to see the list.

Hum..... I don't see anything like that. I've attached a copy of what my User CP page looks like.

Go to User CP, look at menu on left and heading Settings & Options, click on Edit Options. When the Options page displays look for the area about reputation. You might have to check the checkbox to on. Then you should see the list of people who gave you reputation.

Ahh... thank you.

So without that checked, no one could leave me reputation?

I see my last reputation was back in May when I was speaking up about some issues with PowWeb, so I would guess maybe some admin went in there and disabled it or something???? I know I never have been in there. O'well. Thanks for your help - I see it now.

hmm, I thought I had a pop-up...haven't been around that much recently..managed to get addicted to twitter. you can follow me at @entrecon if you want ;)

I don't think anyone went in and disabled anything. As for rep points, if someone gives you some, they have to give them out to a certain number of users before they can rep you again.

Maybe you haven't been reputable lately? :)

..I will bring it up in the mod forum, and share what I find out..

Well it seems that only mods see the 'rep givers' column, except for the popup that some users say they have seen..

Actually I think I mis-read what is in the options:

"Your current reputation level is displayed to other users whenever you post a message. If you would like to hide your reputation, disable this option."

I was thinking it said with it disabled, no one could leave you reputation - where as I think it is only saying that no one could see it (but still leave it.)

Yea... I haven't been too active on the forums in the past... well few years, only a few things here & there usually when there is a problem which gets me to the forums, so yes... I haven't been to "reputable" lately. :-)

More like disreputable? I'm in that catagory. :D

Yes only Mods and Staff can view who repped them and it only shows last 5. Karma is about giving with no expectation. It's only visible to Mods and Staff so we get an idea of who participates where and in what on the forum.

I usually give rep points to good posts, even if I didn't personally use the info. I try to mention why I gave the points and include my initials as YK or YMK to let people know I gave them. I don't always know who gave me points, either but I don't pay too much attention to my own.

I do know that I have tried to give rep points to the same people and need to spread them around to others before giving points to those people again. But it is always the same people giving the most helpful posts! I probably gave points to most people in this thread (obviously didn't give any to myself).

I participate in other forums where the admins or mods could receive repeated "karma" points. The same two or three guys got points from me. I can see how this could be abused so friends can increase points to look more "impressive". If the post itself is useful, the reputation point total really isn't important.

Oh C'mon Yvette, you can't seriously tell us you don't take notice of rep.. seriously.

YvetteKuhns

I don't like the reputation thing and I said that when it was first added. It reminds me of that Joomla poll in another thread. The results were based on who read and participated but the results really don't give you much information.

I do give points to encourage members to participate in the forum. Some people may have a rep of 5 and suddenly jump to 29 from one click from me. Meanwhile another person could click to give me 1 point since that person had a rep of 5. Does that make one post better than another? If all posts got the same number of points, it would make more sense as far as value for posts.

I can have your rep zero'd if the count annoys you Yvette? To say you don't care or pay attention to rep, then quote your rep weight is.. eh. Your rep was well earned, celebrate it. I think you have the second highest rep count at the moment. it's been mentioned before, an option to select or type in 2 or 27 points upto your own rep weight would be cool. That won't be happening anytime soon.

YvetteKuhns
9-11-09, 02:46 PM
The rep weight option you described sounds a little more fair. I just used my own for an example as a known situation I observed instead of making guesses. It is just weird that someone could get 20 points for a simple comment while another comment only gets 1 point. They could be equally helpful.

Many people don't even bother to tell us if our advice solved their problems. I don't worry about rep points but I do like people to tell us if their problems are solved. It's like watching a movie and missing the ending!

I think the regulars are giving points more than they get them. We give points to each other for helping a third party. The third party may or may not give points. At least we are able to do that!

It was your idea to be able to delegate rep points to begin with Doc ~smack.~ You can't cash in on us just yet. I can't rep anyone in this thread, apparently I have to share the butterflies and rainbows around first.. pff.. like that will happen.

I'm trading in my Blue Chip Stamps for a new avatar.
