Hi it possible to restrict FTP folders to only accept .zip or .rar files ?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Not thru OPS, maybe with a script that does uploads, but this won't have any affect on a regular FTP transfer.

I checked OPS before asking so didn't think it could. That would be a killer feature.
Could a guru from PowWeb set up my FTP to disallow files unless they were .zip or .rar ?
As this is a customer supporting customer area, it's not possible for other customers to do this for you. You would need to make the request to support - although it is unlikely to be successful.

That's not what I was asking. I was asking if it was technically possible and if so could someone from PowWeb (hosts) do it.
Your suggestion that such a request is unlikely to be successful still doesn't tell me if it's possible, just that you think no one from PowWeb could/would help.
Obviously I'll raise a ticket and get the answer direct but in the meantime, if anyone knows if it's technically possible to only allow .zip or .rar files I'd be grateful for any info.
As they already restrict the ability to upload (via OPS) to certain file types, including .rar and .zip, then - yes it is technically possible via an application.

For anyone else who wants to do this:
It's supposed to be achievable by editing an .ftaccess file with Deny/Allow commands. I've just tried it and it doesn't seem to work ?

Supposed to be by who? I've not heard of that file (which means nothing actually..), or if it could be used here..

A user, as advised in a response to a support ticket request.

i believe you mean .ftpaccess (http://www.proftpd.org/localsite/Userguide/linked/x1021.html)? I had no idea powweb supported such a thing, or that such a thing even existed.

Anyone else want to chip in and declare they've never heard of something and then declare they have no idea how that which they've never heard of works
(or even if it's supported) despite not knowing of its existence or otherwise until reading about it here ??? This could get metaphysically interesting :)
Support ticket replied that I needed to write an ftpaccess file, google search has it that it's an ftaccess file, like an htaccess file ?
I can't upload an ftpaccess file which is 'unsupported' according to the server response when trying to ftp.
ftaccess files are up-loadable but the syntax and correct folder to place the file has me stumped.
Now, please, if you have anything to add which helps, go ahead and post.
If not, why not sit back and see where this goes without affecting the signal to noise ratio ?

Well I hope this helps.. ;) I created a .ftpaccess file in my htdocs directory, and that directory was not visible when viewing the list of directories in my root directory. When that file was moved to root, a login failed with this error 550 FEAT: Operation not permitted
PWD
550 PWD: Permission denied
The file created was similar to the example on this page, .ftpaccess files (http://www.proftpd.org/localsite/Userguide/linked/x1021.html), also posted earlier, the difference being my current IP address was used in replace of the IP's in the example. I don't have the time anymore to continue this experiment, which IMO, failed. I thought my current IP would've been the only one allowed.
I was using the Firefox FireFTP extension. I created, and then moved, the file with a 'web file manager' type script.
More..
Ok, I edited the file so the DenyAll was before the Allow, and after disconnecting from my ISP and re-connecting (and so given a different IP) I was unable to FTP in. So I guess .ftpaccess works!

I know it works :) Support told me it works and is supported .. I saw that example a while back. What I'm trying to do is, as support says works, is to deny .jpeg files...

Maybe this page will help a bit.. .ftpaccess Modifications (http://www.teamits.com/internet/support/ftpaccess.html), I'd ignore the anonymous stuff..

I read that before posting my question and again after google led me to it, too.
Still can't find any reference to deny .jpg or only Allow .zip or .rar ?
Support say it's possible and I'm waiting for a (hopefully positive) reply to my ticket.
