Just wondering, is profanity allowed aslong as its within the confines of content such as MP3 files? or the name of a song?

Just wondered just in case i write a music track with a swear word here and there (not alot mind as its not usually my style).

What are Powwebs rules on this? Is it counted as adult material that isnt allowed?

Well I would normally say it should be OK in my opinion, but then again - I just re-read the TOS again:

"Utilize the Services in any manner that might subject PowWeb to unfavorable regulatory, law enforcement or other legal action, subject PowWeb to any liability for any reason, or adversely affect PowWeb's public image, reputation or goodwill, including, without limitation, sending or distributing sexually explicit, hateful, vulgar, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable materials as determined by PowWeb in its sole discretion; "

"vulgar" is in there so I would say most companies would not care for a cuss word here & there, but the new PowWeb owners have been doing very strange things - almost purposely finding reasons to push people off the site so it might be a risky thing to try.

ach well, if the concensus is that powweb wouldnt allow it then i would just submit anything like that to another record label.

I don't think they've hired someone to sit and go through websites to find curse words. Most of the people who've gotten slammed are the ones who've posted on the forums regarding questionable website activity.

We dont mind,

"Adult" content means porn 99% of the time.

Thats the type of content we dont want to host.

As long as you abide by the law and have content warnings etc. I don't see a big problem. I don't like it myself but it seems every second song has swearing in it these days especially in the rap and heavy metal genere. Swearing, cleavage, see through clothing.. you can't go to your local mall without being exposed that.

Maybe questionable content could be reviewed and written responses could be sent to customers to "cover their butts" later. If PowWeb staff approves it, the customer shown intent to follow the ToS.

Some hosts don't worry about the contents unless/until someone complains about it. The biggest problems are copyright protected files or porn and not adult language which has become all too common these days.

There is another web host that does not allow adult language AT ALL and they are known to shut down forums and accounts when they find the language. People who moved from that host to this one probably did so for more freedom. :D

bdw: Is there any way you can save the files with a non-offensive name or encrypted name? My concern is all those links to file names that have words that are often filtered by search engines. You can create an image key that explains the encryptions such as F**K since search engines can't read images but most of your visitors should. Just a suggestion.

I havent even written it yet Yvette. Just certain things im not happy with (music wise) that i want to get off my chest. Havent decided yet whether i will release it via the netlabel (website) or sell it through mp3 distribution services.

Just needed to know what powwebs stance on it was so that i can evaluate what im gonna do.

I wouldnt include the word on the title anyway, and it wouldnt be blatantly through the whole tune like rap artists do as its just not my style. And I certainly put a sign saying it has profanity (which is more likey to get it downloaded more, lol). the name of the track wont have the word either.

Just looking at all my options, if it does get written. Ya never know i might be in a better mood when i get into the studio.
