Greetings ....

I just FTPd into one of my accounts I had not visited in a couple three weeks and noticed a couple HT files I had not put there so wanted to know if anyone knows if they are legit.

I did a search on the Forum and nothing came up so thought I would ask. Also did a GOOGLE search on it and they appear to be legit.

The tool files are gz'd ....
1) Apache-Htgroup-1.22.tar.gz
2) Apache-Htgroup-1.5.3.tar.gz

I assume POWWEB put them there for some reason. I looked thru the other directories though and saw nothing unfamiliar. Anyone have an idea?

I have four sites and none of them have those files. Starr may can tell you more.

I just checked my other 7 POWWEB sites and none of those have these files. They are showing up in the HTDOCS in the one account.

The GOOGLE search I did reveals these are used to manage Apache authentication group files and passwords which leaves me a little uneasy. The fact they are tar.gz indicates they are not in an executable state but still ... want to find out what they are doing there.

All else fails, I will blow them away as they may just be a leftover from a POWWEB maintenance but I would think they would have posted a message letting people know there would be some unaccounted for files showing up.

Thanks

If "you" did not put them there, BLOW them away.

There was one instance of an .htaccess in my CGI-BIN directory in that account but it did not appear to have anything out of the ordinary ... contents of that file are:

Options ExecCGI -Indexes

No other .htaccess files anywhere else in that account.

I will delete the subject files and monitor for any re-occurrence or other "suspicious" files creeping into that account.

If anyone else has anything to add ... please do so ... will monitor this thread for a day or two.

Thanks Alphadesk!
