Hi, for the last 2 weeks, both of my accounts on Venus and Asteroid has been downloading my images at a snails pace. I personally download at least 1000 images a week (which my Ebay business partner from another country puts up there) from my account so I can make auctions from. I know it's not my FTP, so I assume something is wrong over there with powweb. Lately it takes over 3 hours for me to download a folder of images when it used to take about 5 minutes via cabel modem. Usually what happenes is that I get about 2 images to download fast and then it nearly stops. Sometime it starts back up and downloads a little and it stops again. This is happening all the time day or night. The uploading works fine and fast though with absolutely no troubles at all for me. Has anyone else experienced this trouble and got results from powweb? I had emailed support with the problem as well, but I do like to post this trouble I had to make others aware.

Thanks
Rusty

I have a site on venus and have not eperienced slow uploads or downloads. Now I hav'nt been uploading or downloading 1000 pics either, just a few files here and there. I can't speak for asteroid.

I got word back from Powweb that everything there is ok, but nothing to tell me how to fix the trouble. So on a hunch, I tried another FTP program. "FTP voyager". It seems to have more options and control over the downloads than the old "CuteFTP" that I was using. Now everything downloading ok, but there is definately more back and forth computer activity going on with each image I download. It appears that recently powweb changed the requirements to download. I don't understand computer mumbo jumbo and what exactly is different to go into details, but I'm sure that they updated some programs that made mine useless. This is the second time this year I had to switch FTP programs because the program mysteriously would not download anymore. So if anyone else here has troubles like mine, try downloading a new FTP program, or if you are more intelligent than I, fiddle with your FTP connection options.

Thanks,
Rusty

We have made no changes to how FTP handles downloads or uploads. The fact that you make a change and it resolves the issue should make that clear to you.

First of all, it's apparent that CuteFTP and FTP Voyager are doing two different things in getting the data I need. They are logging in differently and I'm getting different messages between the two for each image I download. Since I have done absolutely NOTHING to change my CuteFtp program, then it's apparent something changed somewhere to mess up the downloading process for CuteFTP. I would like to know your theories is on what the trouble could be, if it is not my theory that powweb changed some procedure to mess up my Cuteftp. I could not understand what FTP Voyager was doing differently and apply that knowledge to my CuteFtp, but FV obviously overcame what was wrong and connected correctly to get what I want quickly.

Secondly, I am a newbie and I don't understand what it takes to get a picture from your server to my computer via FTP, but I do know there is a lot of confusing procedures behind it all. Your statement was extremely rude, unfair and unhelpful. I thought that it was helpful for me to share my results and suggest to people to try another FTP program. People in charge of these boards, such as yourself, has to look at things from the view of someone that has no knowledge of how these things are done and to suggest helpful solutions, or at least explain yourself so as not to offend the person you are talking to. Your response does not enhance anyone's knowledge at all. I was happy with the answer I came up with to try a new FTP program, but now I would like answers since I'm so wrong here. It makes no sense to me for the program to stop working as it should, after many months of succesful downloading, when I have done nothing to change it.
