View Full Version : Should I stay or should I go?...
I ve joined Powweb less than a month and got only problems. Now my site is down again www.aek.com.gr (DNS???). Also after I signed and paid through my VISA CC, I realised that my card's details travelled the internet. After canceling it I had to make a statement to the bak to refuse the 2700 EURO charges from various bussiness. Thank god most of the money refunded and the rest should be obtained by VISA International.
So what do I have to do? Stay or leave?

At the moment, the nameservers (ns3 & ns2) appear to be taking a nap. From my non-authoritative investigation, this would appear to be the reason why no one is able to get anywhere but the forum, main PowWeb site and OPS.
If you move, you're looking at 24-72+ hours of unavailability for your site(s). If an admin peeks in to check the forum, we may have the nameservers back in a few hours or less.
I think that once the bugs get worked out, things will be great -- but, so far, these bugs have reminded me of the ones in the movie Starship Troopers. :)
But enough is enough. This was handled unprofessionally from the get go.
I can't understand how you are defending these people. For now on, I'm calling them the Butcher's because the really screwed this move up.

What can I say? I'm Winnie's love-slave.
Seriously -- for the last 5 months that I've been here, they've done a lot to try to improve the place. More space, more bandwidth and, once the kinks are worked out, better availability.
It's a matter of perspective -- If I were depending on PowWeb to host a million hit a month, tens of thousands of dollars in revenue web site, I'd probably feel differently. Then again, I wouldn't be hosting a "mission-critical" website anywhere but under my direct control.
If your livelihood depends on your website, trying to go with the least expensive host is NOT necessarily the way to go. Not to knock PowWeb, but IMO, folks that are spending thousands of dollars (US) for promotions driving them to a US$7.77 per month website should probably reconsider parts of their business plan. They've blown a wad on an iffy proposition and are skimping on the "do-or-die" part of the equation.
I'm not particularly happy that my sites were effectively down for two days, nor am I jumping for joy that my pleas for information from ns3 and ns2 are unheard at the moment but for what I pay, I'll deal with it.
For now, anyway. :)

You're right RSaucier. Not the host to have host your web site when their working out of their "bedroom."
However, I know of another host that's the same amopunt per month, and has not been down over a year, and has over 70,000 memebers, and offers major news and directory services ofr your web site.
The thing about management for domains you own is that you should not have all your eggs in the same basket, if you know what I am saying. :-)
