View Full Version : chat system
hello,
I have plans to set up a chat system but it's better to set it up in java then for example perl. However powweb does not support servlets for now. (if there's a moderator watching, he might be able to tell whether they will in the nearby feature? :) )
Other, I see only two alternatives;
1) use a cgi chat afterall...
2) use a public chat server and probably be a condemned to put banners on top of the chat
So, if there are suggestions for other alternatives, I'd be greatful.
cheers,
Fabian

Adding a chatroom to your site is easy. Come on over to www.chatstop.net
You just add a bit of javacode on a webpage.
It is IRC based.
You can find me in the room #webcams under the name "SickPuppy"
It's unbelievable.... on the undescribably vast internet!
We've met yesterday. I don't remember what name I usesd(I guess it was 'test') but I was looking for a chat to install on my site and passed by shortly.
This is funny.. :)

I've setup a great chat script on PowWeb called GTChat. It's a freebie and works very slick. Yes, it's a perl script but uses javascript as well. It's fast and refreshes without a lot of screen changes.
Also, if you want the best darn chat program around there's a great one called ChatSpace. The unfortunate problem with it is that either you host it on your computer OR pay them a monthly fee to host it. It works fine if you host it yourself. But, that means you have to be online 24/7 since you are the server.
But, you won't find a cooler interface with more functions for free anywhere. I run it on a singles site and get raves.

Agreed. We use the chatspace applet and it is awesome.
See it in action on my site or visit them at http://www.chatspace.net
Happy Chatting
