    MySQL Upgrades in Progress - Beginning Monday August 13

    Please read the following:
    http://www.powweb.com/info/systemnotice.bml?id=3741

    We'll be upgrading MySQL from MySQL 4.1 to MySQL 5 server by server, starting with MySQL12 on Monday.

    We hope that this will eliminate the intermittent issues some customers have been experiencing.

    As always, thank you for your patience as we work to improve our platform.

    The MySQL12 server has now been updated to MySQL Version 5. We'll be keeping a close eye on it over the course of the next week or two. If experiencing any issues related to the upgrade, please contact our support team.

    The following mailing was just sent:

    Dear PowWeb,

    In an effort to improve MySQL performance on our hosting platform, on the morning of August 22, we will be upgrading the following database servers from MySQL 4.1 to MySQL 5:

    * mysql01.powweb.com
    * mysql02.powweb.com
    * mysql03.powweb.com
    * mysql04.powweb.com
    * mysql05.powweb.com
    * mysql07.powweb.com
    * mysql08.powweb.com

    Your database is hosted on one of these servers and, as a result, Wednesday morning there should be approximately 15 minutes during which your database will not be accessible--at this time, we'll be copying and upgrading your database to run using MySQL 5.

    MySQL 5 better handles the many simultaneous requests our new database servers receive. The upgrade should therefore enable your site to take fuller advantage of the improved hardware we've added in the past couple months. We're expecting that this upgrade to MySQL 5 will help to resolve any intermittent MySQL issues you've been experiencing.

    For more information about the upgrade to MySQL 5, and how it might affect your site, please read the following Important Systems Notice:
    http://www.powweb.com/info/systemnotice.bml?id=3741

    We're excited about this change, and hope that it yields great performance improvements across our platform. Please contact us if you have any questions:

    Best wishes,

    The PowWeb Team
