    SOBI2 install problem

I'm trying to install the SOBI2 extention (http://www.sigsiu.net) on my joomla 1.58 site but just get a blank page after a few seconds trying to upload it. Someone at their forum said this usually happens if there is not enough memory from the host. Is this possible?
    I've tried both PHIP 4 and 5.

Hi Billy, You can increase the memory limit in your php.ini but I doubt that's the problem. If you need more than 8Mb of memory to load this thing you'll run into other problems. That's the trouble even with a vanilla (stock standard) CMS, they're resource hogs.

I have a couple of older versions of SOBI2 installed with no trouble. Have you checked the error logs to see if that points you anywhere?

Hi Croc, I'm startiing to think I made a mistake using one to update my site. There are advantages, but more limitations than I thought. We'll see.

Just to check if it is a memory issue, what can I increase the memory limit to in php.ini?

What is the current size of the SOBI2 file?

Are you installing from a directory or from a file on your PC?

If you are doing it from a file on your PC, what type/speed of internet connection do you have?

PowWeb limits script execution time to 1 minute. If it is taking longer to upload and excute the install you could run tinto this.

I was thinking about doing a new install with SOBI2 on a site I have here so I might see if I can get it to work. Just so it is a fair comparison, are you running in native or legacy mode?

Okay, so this is what I have gotten so far -
    - Tried to install again and received a message regarding insufficient memory
    - Increaded memory in PHP.ini
    - Tried to install again and received a message that there was no XML file
    - I looked at the ZIP and there was a TAR file, extracted that and attempted to install
    - Received a message that it was an invalid file type
    - Extracted the TAR and then put all ofthe files into a ZIP
    - Attempted to install the ZIP and received a 500 internal server error, same as when I tried to install a couple of message boards on the site.

It says to check the error logs, but my log is empty, so I don't have any next steps for you. I could have something set-up wrong in my php.ini, so you might want to try and see what happens.

I'm not sure if Powweb has a hard limit, they monitor a CPU percentage to time ratio. Try knocking it up to about 20Mb unless entrecon says higher.

I know PowWeb sets limits to restrict, so I just set it to 99Mb to get past the error and figured I would let the PowWeb limit kick in from there.

No luck....thanks for all the help. Going to look for another directory/links extention. If it's this hard to install imagine how it will work. Maybe the next release.....

I don't think that is the issue, I think it has to do with configuration here at PowWeb. I have attempted to install a few different components for Joomla 1.5 and have received the same 500 error.

I have found the solution .

On this site there's an easy to follow manual; kenny.byethost9.com/
    Menu > Joomla help > Joomla help(1.5) > SOBI2.

    It worked for me!

Did it work for you here on PowWeb?

okay, I got SOBI 2 to install on PowWeb.

Unzip the file until all of the files are expanded. FTP all of the files to a folder in the tmp directory. Do an install from directory and set the install directory as the folder you created in tmp.

It should install. I don't know if the issue is with the upload, the zip, or the file name, but it does work this way.

I don't have a website on this host, so I don't know if it works here mate . But the manual I provided from the site above (kenny.byethost9.com) is for people who try to install SOBI 2, and after clicking on the upload button there'll come a blank page.

But I see that you've solved it too, so that's great news .
