15 minute gaps between Powwebs daily log files

Why is there a 15 minute gap between Powwebs daily access log files?

Croc, I think Im going to have to write up a little something to test this.

I dont suspect the gap is as large as 15minutes. But if there is a gap I can see why.
The log files in your account aren't put there directly by the apache web server.

On our platform since cgi and html are separate and there are multiple boxes in each cgi/html pool that you site could be served up from. What happens is that every web request is logged to a central location. At night scripts go through and comb over the log files and split it up and place log files in every ones /stats folder. Also the log file in the central location is uncompressed text. The ones in your home dir are gunzip compressed. There is a little overhead since were compressing the txt on the fly as we put it into your home directory.

Yeah that makes sense thanks. I didn't look at all logs, just the last line 10 Sept and first line 11 Sept. It just so happened the IP I was looking for fell in that missing 15 min gap. No big deal, I got what I was after another way.

    The next nights gap:

    Last line 11 Sept
    114.30.101.85 - - [11/Sep/2009:23:59:36 -0400] "GET /favicon.ico HTTP/1.0" 200 1406 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)"

    First line 12 Sept
    114.30.101.85 - - [12/Sep/2009:00:06:14 -0400] "GET /...html HTTP/1.0" 200 143049 "http://...html" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)"

    6 min gap.
