Well I don't know what step 4 is asking for, but I do know 'localhost' won't work for a database connection. Try username.powwebmysql.com. In OPS, here, http://www.powweb.com/controlpanel/MySQL/index.bml, you can get the real database and server names that are needed.

Edit: I should've clearly stated this, sorry, the username part of the server name will be your OPS login username.

    Step 4 is asking for
    Host
    datebase name
    user name
    password
tables prefix- i dont know what this is so i have been leaving it blank so that might be the problem.

just tried puting the host name as username.powwebmysql.com and xionclothing.powwebmysql.com and it is still not working...

The username part of the server name will be your OPS login username. All the other info is available from the MySQL page in OPS, http://www.powweb.com/controlpanel/MySQL/index.bml.

You got a confirmation email when you signed up, no? Your username would be in there.

Your e-mail confirmation will have been automatically generated by the system/support when you signed up. It will have been sent to the e-mail address you used when you signed up. It will be very possibly similar to the domain name you've registered with them (it will be a truncated version if your domain name is long.)

This may be obvious, but I want to check...

Have you already created the database for the install? Have you verified the database name, username, and password you used to create it?

OPS is how folks usually refer to the account management on PowWeb...I will ask again...did you already create the database?

Any advice on this? Does Magento even work with Powweb? Anyone got a success story?

Magento will not work on Powweb servers. As it requires InnoDB Engine for MySQL database and powweb doesnt support it. Thus its giving database Error. Try any other option such as oScommerce, Zen Cart etc...

    I tested today:
Congratulations! Your server meets the requirements for Magento.

You have PHP 5.2.0 (or greater)
    Safe Mode is off
You have MySQL 4.1.20 (or greater)
    You have the curl extension
    You have the dom extension
    You have the gd extension
    You have the hash extension
    You have the iconv extension
    You have the mcrypt extension
    You have the pcre extension
    You have the pdo extension
    You have the pdo_mysql extension
    You have the simplexml extension

I even looked at the MySQL admin panel:
innodb additional mem pool size 1,048,576
    innodb autoextend increment 8
innodb buffer pool awe mem mb 0
    innodb buffer pool size 8,388,608

    innodb sync spin loops 20
    innodb table locks ON
    innodb thread concurrency 8
    innodb thread sleep delay 10,000
innodb use legacy cardinality algorithm ON

So why do I still get this error?

If Innodb is not supported by Powweb, how did you get this installed ?? Curious ?
