How do I password protect my stats?

I just noticed that my awstats are visible to everyone without logging in to ops. I am using the awstats that is found in ops. I did not install stats on my own. If I understand correctly all powweb sites that were open under Legacy/Powweb do not have secure stats. So I'm guessing that's why my stats are unsecure. Can someone explain how I can block stats from the public view?
    Thanks

FWIW, I am a "legacy" customer and my stats are not open. This changed automatically at some point after the migration. Is your stats folder on the same level as htdocs or is it within htdocs?

Would password protection be suitable? You could set that on your /stats/ folder in OPS .htaccess
