    Speech to Text

I'm looking for software (free, prefferably!) to convert MP3 files of speech by two people to text.

I can split the file into smaller segments, but can't 'train' any software.

I don't want text to speech - I've already got the the speech and want the text.

I've tried google and yahoo! but none stands out as doing the job properly. Those that look interesting have 'trojan' or 'dropper' warnings from my AV software so be cautious!

    Any help would be appreciated.

Did you try searching for 'transcription software'? It brings up a different set of results, and accomplishes what I think you are trying to.

    Thank you.

I've tried that with mixed results. Often it is software to stop playback whilst a human types text in. I've signed up to 'voicebase' which suggests it's capable of what I want. Reviews are mixed though, so I'll wait and see.

    Anyone else with suggestions?

How long is it Ian? My girl transcribes audio very accurately for $2 per/minute of audio. You'll spend more time correcting speech to text converter programs than typing it yourself.

There's lot's of it and no money for transcription yet. It's a project from the TUC with disabled trade unionists telling their stories.

The idea is to have 20-25 interviews each lasting 45mins-90mins. The limited money we have is not enough, yet, to cover travelling expenses.

I'll keep 'your girl' in mind however should money become available. We keep trying but it's the worst time financially to try to raise money from trade unions - they're busy trying to keep jobs.
