    Fatal Error in WordPress Template

    This is what I see when I scroll down to the "Blog" section of my freshly-installed WordPress template:

    Fatal error: Only variables can be passed by reference in /hermes/<<full path to>>/htdocs/wp-content/themes/theme09/functions.php on line 92

    www.enfuegoaudio.com, by the way.

    Here's the questionable code:

    // Removes Trackbacks from the comment cout
    add_filter('get_comments_number', 'comment_count', 0);
    function comment_count( $count ) {
    if ( ! is_admin() ) {
    global $id;
    $comments_by_type = &separate_comments(get_comments('status=approve&po st_id=' . $id));
    return count($comments_by_type['comment']);
    } else {
    return $count;
    }
    }

    I used to be a PHP dev (10 years ago), but it's been so long that I don't really have the time or motivation to spend hours sussing out the problem. From what little I know, it's a PHP version thing. Anyone know of a relatively quick way to fix it?

    If it's the 'version thing' then you can change the version of PHP you're using in OPS from PHP4 to PHP5 or the other way round.
