    Req help, smtp settings

    Hi there.

Just had to wipe my hard drive and start again. (About once a year when some nasty virus that I can't get my system recovered from with the usual tools ... sigh) and now I have to manage to get my main e-mail address working again.

I have managed to luck my way into the settings for receiving my mail, but can't get them right for sending my mail, yet. Figured I would ask for some assistance.

Mail client is Thunderbird, if it matters.

I found one thread in an old forum post that suggested smtp.powweb.com, but that doesn't want to work.

    Thanks,

    Batch

PS, not to complain, but just how kludged together -is- the whole powweb system, anyway?

I mean ... the actual e-mail address people use to contact me is xxx@mydomain.com, but I can't use that address in my settings, I have to use yyy@pop.powweb.com ... a very convoluted and confusing system.

for outgoing I have smtp.mydomain.com. I also have the outgoing server port set to 25, which I think is the standard.

    OK, more information.

My receiving settings work, and are:

    server: imap.mydomain.com
    user : xxx@pop.powweb.com
    connection security: starttls
    authentication: normal

    My sending settings are currently:

server: smtp.mydomain.com Port: 25 (as per above message)
    user : xxx@pop.powweb.com
    connection security: starttls
    authentication: normal

It does not work. Any suggestions on what I need to change next?

    Finally got it working.

    Worked using smtp.mydomain.com port 587
    user: xxx@pop.powweb.com
    starttls
    normal password

    I still say it's a weird system. <ggg>

Hey pop.powweb.com is old setup. If you delete the address and corresponding forward associated with it. You can create new address with yourid@yourdomainname.com and can be used in email settings
