I get nothing but garbage from *@whatever.in
I've tried to find a method for blacklisting the entire tld, but have had no luck. Anyone know how to accomplish this? Thanks! |

That would block access to the web area but would it block emails to an address here at Powweb?

The "Manage Spam Filter" button has the option to blacklist an entire domain as a sender. Unfortunately it does not have the option to block an entire tld by wildcarding it.
It is really simple to use to block sending domains however. Just select your domain in the drop down, click 'Go' and fill out the rest of the form. (Check the radial for blacklist and fill out the sender entry as *@whatever.in.) Make sure you have selected the option for blacklist instead of whitelist. I would recommend checking to see if all these domains are sending from the same IP(s) - then you could block the sender's IP(s) in case they are just switching up domains on you. Also - if there is an 'unsubscribe' button anywhere on the email it will often bypass the filters because it views it as a legitimate newsletter that was signed up for. It generally means that at some point in time you did sign up for their newsletter, a different newsletter you signed up for gave out your email, or due to joke mass emails a spammer copied down your email address and has distributed it amongst fellow spammers, etc. You can fix this by unsubscribing and in most cases the spam will slow down and hopefully disappear. Let me know if you need help.

Thanks Melissa, but there's no unsubscribe links in the emails, and blacklisting one domain at a time is what I'm trying to avoid. I will start looking at the sender's IP(s) to see if there's a connection.....

What are you using as your mail client? There might be an option to put a filter in there instead of on the server side.

I use this DEA, spamgourmet - disposable email addresses, spam blocker, for newsletters and such. With it, not only am I able to 'turn off' an email address, but I can specify both trusted, and exclusive, senders. In short, this means that only who I give this type of email address to is the only one who can use it.. See the site for a better explanation, if you have any questions, I can probably answer them though.

I have a similar problem and try to blacklist with just the IP but the Spam management form tells me the sender's address is wrong when I enter *.*
What should be entered in the sender address field when one wants to block by IP? |

Just a single *, rather than *.* should work for that.
