Website trackers
Along time ago I had surferstats. I really liked most of that site. I liked seeing the ISP numbers coming in. Is there any tracker out there that can give me what I am looking for. I have extreme on my old site. ANy ideas would be great.

If you need something to show the traffic on your site, you can use the program PowWeb provides for free (Webstats). You can enable it from OPS.
Another good program many have used is AWStats. Try a search for it on Google and then you can check it out for yourself. |

trackers
Hakcing no. Obviously I don't have that kind of knowledge, I wish though.
I like extreme in that they show you where people came from and so on. I would like to know more of who these people are. Anyway to know that? Of course other then having them register, or is there a way of getting cookies so when they come in my site can say hello (whomever) and then it logs who it was? |

Webaliser probvided with Powweb is ok, but lacks several features.
On most of my websites I work with, I use a combination of Extreme and also Sitemeter. You know what Extreme does for you (best for a long-term overview of referrals). Sitemeter is great for a yearly graph so you cn see at a glance how the numbers of visitors are going - up, or down, or steady. It also gives detailed info about each visit. The free version has limits on what info it will give you, and only tells about the last 100 visits. The paid version ($60/year I think) remembers 1000 visits and gives more info about stats. For my own site (www.pacificwebsites.com) I pay the yearly fee for the advanced stats - it is well worth it, being superior to Webaliser by a far shot. And I think WebTrends is for the Big Boys with lots of money to throw at thier marketing. My clients are mostly low budget and appreciate the free tracking I supply for them. If you have any questions, email me . Alan Pattinson www.pacificwebsites.com Last edited by Pacific; 1-18-03 at 11:35 PM.. |

I have extreme tracking, but I rely mostly on a free tracker called AddFreeStats: http://www.addfreestats.com/
I find this to be the most comprehensive tracker and allows you to add a link to each of your pages and you can obtain statistics on each from the main page log-in screen. Sandy |

Yes, Sandy, AddFReeStats gives lots of information about your visitors, too, and I have tried them.
The three things I didn"t like about their free service was: 1. the distracting ad appearing on my website (they are small) 2. the interface on the stats page - is that all java or something? 3, My search terms never seem to work correctly. Another free one I tried was Nedstats, but the amount of info they supplied was really limited. And the one from Denmark, which name escapes me right now, had a limited amount of info, too. (on the free trial version) It probably comes down to what your personal preferences are when using a tracker service. Any tracker is better than none! I see in another part of Powweb ( there is the ability to configure Webaliser even more to a personal preference - I'll probably try that when my stats start working again. I contacted tech support and they said that there had been a problem with some sites showing other site's traffic. They will (fingers crossed) fix it tonight. Again, a trackers value to me is a long term overall complilation of referrers (Extreme does this good), individual analysis of a visit (Sitemeter good) and graph of visitor numbers trends (Sitemeter great).
