Php modules

Is there a page where i could find the list of the modules (and their version) available on powweb ?

EXCELLENT QUESTION! I also want to know. I'm interested in the ming module (php module that can dynamically create *.swf files on the server). A web page that lists all the current php modules used for powweb would be very helpful. -shogo

A fellow ming'er I'm also interested in which version of GD is used, i currently have only v1.6 on my hosting and i need some functions from v.2

Try checking out http://ops.powweb.com/powweb-bin/perldiver.cgi to find out what modules are installed on the server. The script does not list their version, but it should help you at least get an idea of what is available.

Also taken from the PowWeb FAQs regarding if you need a module installed:

Just send an email to support@powweb.com with the module name, URL, and if possible, a link to the .tar or .gz file.
The review process can take several days. If it has been more then a week since you submitted your request, please send a second request.

Not all modules are feasible to add to our web server. Please try to look for other solutions if a module you want is not available.

I took the advice from the Powweb FAQ you quoted and 4 days later got this response:

We keep our webservers installed with the latest and patched software . We also
run the software that most people will use and will not use up to much memory
and is not necessary . This is why we do not install most 3rd party applications .
You can however try to install them yourself . Most *nix applications are
installed by configure then make and then make install, the last installing it
to the server . But the first 2 steps will install the program to your local
web directory which you can use in php or perl . So if you want to attempt you
can install applications to our servers but have to point your webdirs to where
you installed them .

Fisrtly....you guys could have told me this ealier then 4 days....is that you turn around on support these days. I don't mean to get angry but I waited!!!

Also why bother saying to email if you wont do it anyway.

And the email response I got makes little sence and is hard to follow.

Can someone post clearer instructions on what this person is saying!!!

If you check the time-stamp of my post, you'll see it's from 11/04/2002. That's two years ago.

I'm sorry my answer from back then did not work for you, but a lot of things can change over a two year period. lol In fact, I'm no longer a moderator (guess I should update my signature also.)

What the instructions are saying is that in many cases you can install the modules you need somewhere on your account, then edit your script's files to call the files from the location on your account instead of in the location they're installed to by default.

It depends a lot on what application you are trying to install and what module it is you are needing to work also.
