I do not recommend upgrading. If you have more then one disk, put all you want to save on the second one and wipe out and do a full clean install of 2k on the primary disk.
Otherwise make backups of all your important files and still re-format your HD and do a fresh install of 2k. I have been using Winblows since 3.1 (I used a Mac prior), and know that upgrading your OS, let alone changing from one OS to another, never works out as easy as they say it does. |

i agree with starr
however you should in theory be able to do an upgrade and keep all your programs data and settings.
It is really better to do a fresh (clean) install as starr syas have a look at my earlier post for some good win2k tips

I have to agree 300% with Starr on this one, especially since you are going from ME to 2k.
Just dump ME and start over, backup everything that you want to save (data files and documents). You will have to reinstall any Winblow$ programs as they will not "copy" onto your new system. When you do an "upgrade" you tend to carry over any of the problems associated with the older OS that you are replacing. With all the problems of ME, I don't think you want to carry those over to your 2k system. If all you have is an upgrade CD, you can still do a fresh install by making sure that you have your old ME CD handy. When it goes to check for the old OS and prompts for where it's located, just put in the ME CD and point to that. As long as it sees that you have a valid copy of the older OS, it will still install.
