Inserting Images...
I use Frontpage and when I insert created images they look distorted. For example, a text box with colored background may end up having a warped appearance around the text and it looks like the pixles are "shaken out of place"....Is there anything to do about this? Thanks!

artifact pixels
I am not sure I understood what you are doing, but if you are taking lettering created someplace, then layering it over a background, you can get artifact pixels around the letters.
Read up in Photoshop (if you use it) on smoothing and you will find a couple of ways of either blending or otherwise hiding that transition. Sometimes you have to generate the text on a colored background that is close to the tones in the pic you are laying the text onto,,,then mask the text, create the transparent background, and finally overlay your text onto the image. That way, the border pixels now match the background better and dont show up as badly Hope that helps Dale |

I think I know the problem. You are using the 'drawing' tools that ship with FP2002, right? And you want to insert one of the text boxes, or 'callouts' in the box tool.
Although these features are a great idea, they fail in one big way. What happens is they position themselves as 'absolute'. What this means is that if the viewers browser were set at different dimensions then those items would wind up in a different location on the page. Example: You place the text box in a table cell and place the text in it. It looks great in preview mode. You publish it, view it in your browser and your browser opens but not to the full width of your screen. The text box is now located 3 inches off from where it should be. Then, expand your browser and voila! It's where it should be (or close). I found out the same thing when I got FP2002 home, set it up, couldn't wait to play with the new toys only to be disappointed that it's no where close to cross browser compatible with those new functions. My advice is to create the graphics in a graphics program. Try Netstudio. It's got the same callouts and graphic styles as FP2k2. www.netstudio.com Or, PhotoImpact. It also has callouts and other cool features. www.ulead.com |

Thanks for all the feedback...I'll try these things out.
Simco...I am creating images in photodraw. Nothing complicated...I'm just drawing a box, filling it with color and adding text to get used to creating images and putting them ina web. They end up with the distortion described above when I save them as jpgs and insert them or just compy and paste directly from a photodraw file. Thanks again! Mike |

Photodraw may not have a 'true' image compression component and that's why you're not getting the clear pics. Or, if it does, perhaps you are compressing them too much.
Typically, with PhotoImpact (which I use), I can't compress to much more than about 75% of the original size without seeing some distortion. If PhotoDraw does have a compression utility, try backing off on the compression ratio some and see if it helps. |
