Unhappy System Standby Fail Message

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1900 running XP.

Everytime the machine attempts to go into standby it flashes an error message called System Standby Fail

The text is "The Device driver for the STandard 101/102-key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard device is preventing th emachine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists you may need to update this driver"

I have tried all of the above - I searched for the driver and as the machine is just 6 months old the driver is the most recent. It has been happening since day one but nobody seems to know what is causing this.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

The current driver may be the most recent, but it may be corrupted. Did you tell it to reinstall the new driver anyway?

Have you tried a different driver from the list of accepted drivers?

If it's been happening since day one, I would have taken it back on day two.

Good luck with it.

You might want to read this KB article at Microsoft

When it originally happened I was on to Toshiba but they couldn't help. It didn't seem to bother me then but it is frustating though.

Thanks JJ.

I looked up the article - removed the program and will now hope for the best!

Have to restart to see if it has worked! Will report back later.

Talking

It seems that it was Adobe Type Manager that caused the problem. It is gone now and everything works fine.

Thanks for your help

Stingray,

Glad that fixed the problem, too bad that Toshiba didn't know about it or tell you about it when you first noticed it. Guess they need to read MS's Knowledge Base more often...

Cool

JJ,

You're right! I did get another message from another forum suggesting that there are a few other programmes that can cause the same problem but it seems that Adobe is the biggest offender!

Anyway - thanks again for all your help!

I know this is an old, old thread, so I hope nobody gets mad at me for one additional bit of info.

I had the same problem... my old Toshiba 1625CDT running Windows 2000 (not XP) had this exact same problem, but I had never installed Adobe Type Manager (ATM) and it did not show up in my list of installed programs.

Turns out that ATM is not the only thing that can cause this problem. See this article at Microsoft's KB site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;314118

In my case, the problem was PGPdisk 6.0.2i. Once I uninstalled this, the problem went away.

Hope that helps somebody out there...
