Ready for a beating --- AHSGrizz.com

Got this alumni site up a few months ago and would like to have some unbiased opinions. The folks that normally drop by are much too nice.

It's not db driven (no skills) and probably too much red, but if you see anything else that is garish and violates other basic rules, please let me know. I've got pads on so be as brutal as needed.

Take a look here @ http://www.ahsgrizz.com

Cheers!

I think it looks fine, as far as lay-out goes. The coloring, in my opinion, goes good together but is a little bright.

Woah... red alright. and bright Blue ?? Put your sunnies on guys.

The dietpower banner freezes up for me could be this damn Xp. I like the top nav bar and how the text bumps on click. Up the cellpadding to avoid the text touchng the drop down menus. You might want to reduce the "Comments available for this item" text size in the gallery or delete it. Or spread the gallery to fill an 800x600 screen.

Nice cosy little community.

Totally agree with you on the colors, but that's about as close to the school colors as possible. Probably could have toned them down some, but it is what it is.

The banners are getting yanked when I have the time. There's not too much click through and we are getting enough donations to cover the cost. I don't think that it is just XP. They don't seem to work on a variety of boxes. It might be the programing skills involved (me), but they are not consistent.

The drop down menus have been problematic. They render wierd on Macs running OSX and IE5.x I don't see the problems on my boxes running W2K, W98, or XP. I will see what I can do with the cell padding and Allwebmenus internal formating.

I appreciate the third and fourth sets of eyes. If there are other comments, I would welcome them.

Cheers!

School colors are not always the easiest in the world to use for web design. Considering what you had to work with, it's not that bad...after the first initial shock

The only thing I wonder about, is all that spare real estate that you have on the right side of the pages. Are you saving that for future expansion, or do you plan on renting it out for development?

To me it would be better if you centered your content more, and possibly used percentages instead of fixed sizes for your tables.

At 800x600 the page looks decent, but at 1024x768 the left edge of the content almost gets lost at the left margin. And at 1024x768, it sure looks awfully barren on the right hand side.

Also, at 1024x768, the text is almost unreadable (at least for me, with all that red)

1400x1050 looks fine here... i go with (jj) on this one, for the content you have i would recomend centering the content as it might help. And the comment on use percentages instead when i turned to 1400x1050 (my normal resolution) the tables almost screwed.

Keep it up,
-E

I used to do our local "Official" school district website.... and when it came to colors I picked my own - lol. They may be your school colors, but I'd recommend softening them up - maybe fading them a little bit and using them selectively.

This is just a suggestion - just because red and blue may be your school colors, it doesn't mean that you have to have everything in those colors. Maybe make the outlines of the tables in school colors, and pick a neutral color for the fonts etc.

Otherwise you've got a great and informative site going there. Good job!

I appreciate all the good ideas and input. I think I am going to take your feedback on the colors -- leave it red and blue where it makes sense and neutralize the rest.

I also like the idea of centering all the content and perhaps formatting it to all screen widths. With the way its set now, that may take some time, but when your time is donated it must be free.

Hey, thanks again.
