Hello, I installed OSC last night and eveerything went well.
Now my only real problem is what is the best way to edit it. Meaning getting my product line in the catalog, customizing the look to my already exsisting site and so on.Would that be through the OSC admin page? PHP is totally new to me so I am a little lost. I currently edit my website with dreamweaver MX (for MAC) incase that helps? Any assistance will be much appreciated! Thanks |

To upload the products(images) to your site and adding description and price can be found in the OSC admin panel.
Editing however is done entirely by hand. http://wiki.oscommerce.com/helpHowto This site has some documentation of how to change some of the coding within osc. BACK UP ALL FILES you are working on before making changes and as you are making changes. It is very easy when not familiar with php to add a character that php does not parse and you will get an error. Restore to the last backup you made and move on. =) Jade |

In the index of that link OSC has listed the API standards .
These will help you learn some of the php used in the application. If you are thinking of modifying the existing template, expect to spend 12-30 hours changing the code. There is no easy way of extensively modifying the code to change the visual aspects of osc. Be patient. =) Jade |

Thanks for the heads up and additional info...
I am not really interested in changing the exsisting template because I am thinking on just using the "store" as an alternative to my website. Meaning when people goto my site and want to buy, they'll click on "go shopping or something" and Poof it goes in the OSC page. So all the basic stuff like Products, prices and so forth can be handled in the admin page...correct? The only thing I want to really change is just adding my logo instead of OSC's. |
