Suggestions

Since there is no suggestion forum I will post this here. I recently switched to PowWeb from my previous hosting provider Pair Networks. Pair was actually a great provider. The support was good and the service was very reliable. The pricing was great for the package I had: 500 MB storage, 3 GB transfer per month, no MySQL, no PHP, 1 POP account, unlimited email forwarders, and while I was a member they added free web mail, free junk mail filtering and a free email list. The whole package was pretty cheap, one of the cheapest I could find out there. However since I host a band's web site we often had problems with bandwidth for our music and video clips.

I am pretty happy with the overall level of service with PowWeb however I have a couple suggestions of things that Pair offers would be great to have at PowWeb as well.

1. Mailing list software - Again I said that Pair added email list software using Mailmail 2.0. It was very customizable and it would be great if PowWeb could offer similar software so I could set up the band's mailing list at PowWeb. I know that I could install this myself but it would be better if PowWeb offered it. Also the 1000 email limit is cutting it close for us (our email list is over 500 people, but we only send out emails about once every 2 weeks).

2. Web-based file browsing - This is a custom system that Pair has which allows users to do basically everything from the web browser including, upload files, download files, delete files, change permissions, move files, etc. It also had an automated system to generate htaccess files, which I found to be extremely helpful.

I know that features are added to PowWeb all the time, and its not like I'm expecting these to be added. However both would be nice additions to PowWeb's feature set and once implemented I don't see them as requiring much extra effort on PowWeb's end.

You can install software in you space to accomplish both of those things.

First, for the web base file system. I have used Invision File Manager on PW and it has worked great http://www.invisionfilemanager. There are a few other programs to do this, but nothing I can remember off the top of my head. There also is an active thread on a web based file manager, but i forget the title as well.

As for the mailing list software, i have used mojo before and I thought it was pretty cool, but you can go to http://www.hotscripts.com and they probably have over 100 different php or perl mailing list managment programs to us.

As I said before I am completely aware that I can install this software myself. However wouldn't it be better if PowWeb provided these services for us, preconfigured?

I will probably install both of the packages you mentioned. Thanks for the suggestions.

One of my sites is on a host that allows 60gb per month, but I've been on that one since 1999 when it was less then 500mb month. How times change.
