Question Free Domain transfer??

I need a new host for my domain, and a new registrar. My domain is currently hosted by Yahoo-Geocities.

On the third on this month Yahoo suspended the operation of my domain, without any warning. I have sent three e-mail messages to them since then and they have not responded. They will not handle any service problems by telephone, e-mail only, and they promise a response within 48 hours. They allow 5 e-mail addresses with the domain, I setup two, and now after six months none are functional and never have been. It took 6 weeks of setup time just to get my domain names functional.

The registrar for the domain used by Yahoo is in Austrailia. When I was being setup with Yahoo Geocities, someone hacked into my registration and changed it. I had to make long distance calls to Austrailia in order to get it corrected which cost me and an additional $45 in toll charges.

As I understand it my domain can be transfered without any charge to me. Is this correct? You are saying that you do not charge for the transfer but can Yahoo force me to pay a fee?

Can you become the new host and registrar of my domain with out me having to pay more than the cost of the 12 month plan?

Regards,

You can indeed transfer you domain here to PowWeb free of charge. However, to transfer registrars, most require a one year fee for this service. You can head over to 15domains.com and change registrars for $15 (I believe).

Hope this helps!

Well, I thought that the 12 month plan included free domain registration. The tranfere costs no more than registration, I would assume. So why doesn't PowWeb handle it for me?

No where does PowWeb claim to offer free domain registration. The site states "If you do not yet have a domain name, we can register any new domain name for you for only $15 a year!"

Hope this helps!

Exclamation

Well, thanks for clearing that up, but I seem to be have great difficulty getting my questions answered.

Yahoo customer service is still not responding, and I have also contacted ipowerweb.com. They like geocities include free domain registration. But I need to know about getting the transfer done and transfer of registrar.

You pointed me to 15domains.com, and they work through domainbank.com who doesn't ordinarily transfer domains from inww.com who is the current registrar. So I would have to send a special e-mail to find out if it can be done.

Also change of registrar can take up to 10 days according to a faq at register.com.

The whole difficulty is with the low price. No provider can provide any reasonable customer support when they are only getting 8 dollars a month. So my decision will be based on getting it all clarified as to how the transfer will go through before I buy. It is not likely that I can stay with Yahoo-Geocities, because I think that they can not afford the proper software to handle their domains, and this has caused me many problem over the six months of my service. They are trying to convert their hosting from what was a free service to all paid services, and its not working well.

Regards,
