Thinkpad 1400 611 Mouse driver
I am having trouble locating the correct driver for my Thinkpad 1400 2611 411 laptop. The driver on IBM's website will not install. It tells me it's is not a compatible driver. I am following their install directions also. Any help would be appreciated.

You can check the Windows 98 SE cd or maybe the manufacturer of your mouse or laptop (IBM). I never had that problem. Hmm.

Oh! You are trying to use the Thinkpad mouse! That stupid little red dot that one of my programmers refers to as the nipple! I thought you were trying to use a REAL mouse! Not one that squeaks, but an external mouse.
That must be with your laptop software you got when you bought it. I don't have that brand laptop. Maybe I can ask some of the guys about that. You didn't find the correct driver on IBMs downloads for the Thinkpad for Windows 98 SE? How odd. |

Trackpoint driver
The laptop came with a restore cd. But it's for windows 95. I tried to locate the driver for the trackpoint mouse on the cd, but could not read the files. I found what IBM said was the driver for the Trackpoint mouse but it was not compatible. Thanks for your assistance.

You chose from Column one, Mouse/TrackPoint, Windows 98/Me and it didn't work? Column two pointed to the driver in Column one anyway. If that doesn't work, try PCdrivers.com http://www.pcdrivers.com/input.htm#tp600tp see IBM ThinkPad TrackPoint Hey, can't you search Google? ![]() |

I downloaded the same drivers that are available on the links you have given me. They all react the same way, when I try to install them according to the instructions for Win 98. When it gets to the point of loading the driver, it asks for the " Trackpoint Diskett ". At that point all functions freeze. Have to do a hard shutdown. The method I am using to load the driver is by going into the device manager mouse listing and updating the ps/2 driver.

Try removing the existing mouse driver, then reboot the computer and it should say "Found new hardware" and allow you to browse to install a new driver.

Try saving the mouse drivers on floppy disks, so you can install the driver from there at the prompt.
Or just get an external mouse! ![]() |

Saving to floppy
This is where I have been saving the file to. When I point the install to the floppy disk. It stops the install from completing and asks for the "Install Diskett ".

Verify the internal TrackPoint is set to Automatic.

Results of install attempt
I uninstalled the mouse driver in " Device Manager " and rebooted. I searched for the trackpoint driver "ps/2 trackpoint ". I was prompted to insert the " Trackpoint Diskette ". I inserted the floppy with the driver on it that I downloaded. Would not install. Hmm! Thanks for your efforts. You have gone the extra mile. Sheldon

Please download the correct driver and save to a diskette.
http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/si...id=LWIK-3VGKTZ When it asks you to insert the Trackpoint Diskette, you should have the diskette that has the driver for 98. |

Trackpoint driver installed
I was able to get the Trackpoint driver installed. I went in to the mouse properties to enable the TP mouse. The mouse is not enabled.( Although it says its enabled ) It "was" working on the old OS. So I don't believe it's a hardware problem.

I think the computer is detecting the old driver for Windows 95 that will not work for Windows 98. Did you install 95 over 98 or did you reformat your hard drive? Did you remove the old mouse driver(s) first, then install a brand new driver? |

OS Install
I did a fresh install of Win 98 SE. I also uninstalled the ( default ) mouse driver that loaded at the initial boot up. The driver that is shown appears to be the correct driver for the model of laptop and os I am using. I even removed the newly installed mouse driver and reinstalled the recommended driver from IBM again. Tough one . Huh!

Do you have to use THAT mouse?!
Go into the BIOS and check Mouse and Keyboard, then select Auto and it should automatically detect the mouse. |
