Oh, what the hell.

The url of my personal site on Powweb is http://jbogdan.org .

Let me anticipate some potential criticisms. Some of you just won't like my politics, and a lot of the content, though not all, is political commentary. Remarks about about the content of the site, the words, should really go in the comments section after each article on the site. I promise to reply there, but I don't think this forum is the place to discuss that sort of thing. I'm sure, too, that there are typgraphical errors I've missed. And if you find the content at all interesting you will undoubtedly be annoyed--I know I would be--by a couple of articles that start out fast from the gate but are not yet finished. One even ends with a list of headings for sections yet to be written. (For a number of personal reasons I haven't had the time to do much writing in the past few months.)

I'm mainly interested in people's opinion of the overall design. FYI, the site is built with the Cutenews cms, which I prefer to all others because it allows me to use my trusty Namo web editor to make my site look like I want it to without tearing what remains of my hair out trying (and usually failing) to modify some css-genius's standards-based "theme." !Que viva tables!, I say.

Slow the monkey down. Makes me dizzy.

Archives link goes to a window with nothing.

Rather simplistic format, but it works.

Critique - criticism - info to improve with:

At first glance, the page took just shy of two minutes to load on dial-up. Most people won't wait. http://jbogdan.org/CUBACRD.JPG is 210k... if you can get that down to 30k, that would be better.

It isn't always a good thing to have your first page be real long. You may want to trim it or spread the information to additional page(s).

at 1024x768, there's not much scrolling on headlines... if you were to even shrink your top graphic a little bit, to make it fit on one screen ... just food for thought. Then there's no link back to your other pages.

aside from this, blogs are blogs imo.

here are a few points that might help the overall layout out. your top graphic w/monkey is wat too big, crop that down to a third, move your navigation under your header so people don't have to search for it. the copy could also wrap the dog image so you can use more of the page and not make your home page so long. you can alos add links back to the top and maybe repeat your navigation at the bottom of the page if it still doesn't fit on the screen.

as for layout it looks like a bunch of scraps on a green table top. try containing all your content within a solid background over the green background, that will help it flow better.

and kill the monkey or make it static.

hope some of that helps

simplistic design - nice and clean. I also agree that the logo image is a tad large, but that is more a matter of preference, especially for those people that view on larger resolutions that 800 x 600 (although that's what i like).

The one thing that caught my eye, as these things do, is the two white tables are vertically not in alignment. They are off by about two or three pixels. I think having things out of alignment is a quick way to take away from the professionalism of a site.

Good work.

yup

they about said it all, dont have links that go no where, dont make people scroll forever, dont make people use the back button on browser, and why on earth waste so much space on empty green ? how about a about you page?or did i miss it? needs some kind of intro i would think so a person can decide if they want to check it out or not, i personally dont like white pages i use ivory a lot a little off white, lmao other then that lose the monkey flash is a pain headed colors are schizophrenic, and i dont think we gut 3rd world countires i think we make it possable so people who did not have the guts, the drive, the smarts, to get out of dirt streets and mud huts have a chance at moving ahead to something better .with out the western nations some dictator would run the whole world. oh yes and then who would whiners complain about?? certainly not the dictator, oh sorry just my blog
