Lightbulb Constructive Critque Welcomed

Hi all, finally got a web site up and running and would welcome any constructive criticsm, suggestions or general comments, especially from Yvette. Web site can be found at http://www.clandesertrats.co.uk and is centred around a Battlefield 1942 clan.

Please bear in mind that this is the first version of the website and we are looking at enhancing/modifying certain elements in the coming months.

Thank you for your time in looking at the site and providing feedback.

Cheers, Chris.

Nice mouseover effect.

But you might want to take a look at your site using Netscape or FireFox, it sure doesn't look the way it does in IE.

Thumbs up

The overall design is very appropriate. I agree with JJ that the mouseover effect looks okay in IE, but it may not work for everyone. The images of the flags are dark. Was that deliberate? And they don't link to anything. I thought maybe each flag linked to a version in that language or something.

The text is small for my eyes and there is a big open space on the home page. Oh, the links for News makes the banner change and I suppose the contents will change and fill that open space. Neat.

The IRC Room link didn't work. The Invision forum is blue and white which is not consistent with the website. It is easier to read but doesn't have the same feel. The calendar login is also blue and white. Hmmm.

There is an image missing for "12 pints" link under Gallery. Not a very flattering photo to which that links! Now I don't feel so bad about the Halloween pic I posted.

I know that my programmers and interns will enjoy this gaming site. In fact, one of the programmers is a manager for EA Games. Very manly site. The image of the lady with the cards is racy and hot! Very nice design!

without getting into broken links and such, i'll say the site looks and acts good over broadband. your header is very nice, gives a good feel to the site. Not being someone who plays 1942, i still knew what was going on, i'm sure in the future this will be a great site for your friends (clan) to jump onto as their first source of info. the only design comment i can make is the red. i think it might be better to take the red out of the sub headers and menu and incorporate (sp) it into the rest of your design. I think the checkered background in the modules is great along with the camo background, feels like an official site.

Cheers for the feedback everybody, nobody in the clan is what I would term a proffesional web developer, we only have basic ad hoc knowledge of web development and we wanted to steer clear of the usual Nuke (or equivelant) clan site. We did have to use some pre written scripts for certain elements (news, match management).

The flags on the site denote member countries and am not sure why the guy chose a dark option for them, I think they're mainly decorative. The Invision form skin has been left as is at the moment as we're waiting for version 2 and then we're going to skin it in a similar colour scheme to the main site.

I too think the text on the site is on the small side and this may be changed in the future.

Thanks for the feedback again, welcomed. By the way, if anybody does play BF 1942 please feel free to jump on our public server, we're a friendly bunch and players of all levels are welcomed.

If Firefox users upgrade to the latest flash plug in, the mouse over effects work apparently, not checked it myself but one of the web guys has tested.

The mouse over worked for me (I use FireFox as my default browser), it's the content of the page I was talking about. In FireFox the content starts at the bottom of the page, and in Netscape 7 your site does not look as good as it does in IE.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so Here's a Picture cause I don't feel like typing a thousand words.

There is a missing </table> in your html code which could explain why the site's layout doesnt look very good in Mozilla Firefox.

Checkout the W3C markup validation service for more details.

Good luck
